This paper is beautiful. It holds in, paint, pencilAnd paint pens without rips or tears. Looking forward to practicing brush work and using it for projects. Great value for the amount of paper received.

My calligraphy teacher recommended Ripe Xuan paper to practice writing italics using a broad-edge pen or a flat brush. I thought this paper is only for Asian brush lettering, but this paper is really perfect with western alphabets such as italics, blackletters, Romans, fraktur, etc. One must write lightly and slowly as the paper is soft, slightly textured (laid), and not absorbent as it is ripe paper (the raw paper doesn't work because it bleeds). It is also nice for watercolors. It is slightly thicker than the ones that come pre-cut. In the picture, there is no bleeding even when writing on both sides.

This is exactly what I wanting. The paper, though, are not as thick as I think. But it is alright. I like it. Would purchase another roll - the yellow one, hope it is as good as the white one

I was practicing Chinese Calligraphy on wrinkley packing paper... not a pleasant experience. Decided to check whether Amazon sells Xuan Zhi. And surprise, it does. And much cheaper than I expected. This paper was delivered in perfect condition. And if you write on it with regular size Chinese character, it will last you quite a long time. It's thicker than what I am used to, and my mom said it's not handmade (we are both Chinese and are used to the Xuan Zhi quality). But who cares whether it's machine made or handmade. For this price, you get an awesome product that's perfect for you to practice or use it for more serious work. Some reviews commented on the sparkles. Yes, this paper does have some subtle silver sparkles. It's a common feature for some fancier Xuan Zhi. It does not affect how your paper performs. I actually like it that it's a bit thicker than the traditional paper. Even though it says is Shu Xuan, meaning it absorbs less water than the Shen Xuan, it still absorbs enough for your ink not to bleed. I'd say for the price, it's a great buy.

A little thicker than usual practice xuan paper, but still thin enough to trace the image if needed.

But I'm a beginner so I'll just deal with it. Who knows HOW long it would take them to replace it?! But the paper itself looks beautiful.

Beware the paper is embedded with sparkle fleets. Never saw it in any sumo paper before. The description does not tell you this
