About this item

  • HAND HAMMERED IN TURKEY: formed by artisans to refine thickness, shape, tone, and feel—each Byzance cymbal is truly one of a kind
  • B20 BRONZE ALLOY: composed of 80% copper and 20% tin, this alloy produces a rich, complex sound with a wide dynamic range—perfect for nuanced playing
  • MIKE JOHNSTON SIGNATURE: the Transition Ride was developed with renowned drummer and instructor, Mike Johnston, who was looking for a ride with a seamless transition from articulate stick definition to a wide-open crash
  • EXTRY DRY TOP WITH BRILLIANT BOTTOM: the bottom side is finely lathed and topped with a brilliant polish to add shimmering glow; this also improves both clarity and crash-ability
  • ARTICULATE BELL WITH SPECIAL FINISH: the bell of this ride is clear and present, activating the whole cymbal as you play; the bell and top side are lightly polished to give the cymbal a smooth touch and stunning look
  • RAW YET REFINED: Byzance Extra Dry cymbals are dry, fast, and trashy with deep complexity; the extensive hand hammering creates uneven thickness for organic overtones
  • SIZE AND TYPE: 21" ride
  • MODERN MEETS TRADITION: hand hammered with old-world techniques, designed for today’s demands

Byzance Extra Dry cymbals look raw but are meticulously hand-hammered for a refined sound. Designed for a dry, fast, and trashy tone, they deliver explosive grit at high volumes and soft white noise when played lightly. Crashes, splashes, and chinas cut through with raw intensity. Hihats and rides offer crisp definition with a trashy edge. Crafted in Turkey from cast B20 bronze, each cymbal is shaped by skilled smiths. Splashes, crashes, hihats, and effects feature lathed undersides for a smooth feel and warmer tones, while rides stay unlathed for sharp articulation. The Transition Ride stands out with a lathed bottom that’s polished to a brilliant finish.

This is the last Meinl I attempt to buy. Mike Johnston did a fantastic job selling this cymbal. The cymbal in the video looked fantastic, well built with a dry yet stone like texture. The cymbal I received was brassy, shiny and cheap looking. I wasn't a joy to play (like they sell it on the video) it didn't sound or play anything like that. I have old noname cymbals that play better. The cymbal was also shipped in a thin plastic bag in a huge box. It was bouncing around like a hotdog in a hallway. No packing was provided to keep the edges from banging around during shipping. If their cymbals were half as good as the marketing wank, they might be worth buying. I have a few on my kit and I am less happy with them every day.

I see some bad reviews, but I bought mine in a drum shop so I could hear it and verify that it is what it says. I do wish it would’ve lasted a little longer, however a year and a half of playing nearly 3 days a week for at least 3 hours is pretty good.Sound overall was excellent. Great big washy edge sound. Bell sound was a little inconsistent, but you gotta understand hand hammered isn’t precision lathing. Will buy again

It's definitely an awesome ride. But beware of the overly positive reviews here. Meinl is trading free percussion accessories for positive reviews on Amazon.

The cymbal was shipped in a giant box with no packing material. It sounded like a trash can lid with no usable bell. I sounded entirely different on the Internet. Ended up getting a A Custom Zildjian 20 inch ride.

This is the most versatile ride I have ever played. The feel and sound of it is amazing. I love how you can crash on it and once your done the sound does not linger. I can't say anything but good reviews. The bell sounds perfect to, not to pignut but just right.
