FEATURES
Fast & Slow measurement
Fast measurement, using a time constant of 125ms,is generally used for unstable conditions with large fluctuations and traffic noise. Slow measurement, using 1000ms time constant, is generally used to measure steady-state noise, and the measured value is the effective one.

Choose between either A or C weighting
A weighted sound level is the frequency charac-teristic of low-intensity noise below 55dB, and C weighted sound level the frequency characteristic of high-intensity noise.
MAX/HOLD Function
The sound level meter with MAX/HOLD function can record the current maximum decibel value; the decibel reader and recorder can freeze the reading on the display without worrying that the reading is too fast to record.

Produkten var trasig och saknade material som skulle varit med. Troligen en tidigare retur som skickats ut på nytt. Returnerades på en gång, då den var fysiskt trasig och fungerade inte alls. Betyg satt baserat på det, då jag inte vet om den annars kanske uppfyllt förväntade krav.

Does meter does not seem to be consistent whatsoever. I can measure the same application over and over and I'll get different meter readings every time.

Das handliche Messgerät ist nach dem Einlegen der Batterien sofort einsatzbereit und beginnt unverzüglich mit der Messung der Umgebungslautstärke. Das Gerät ist sehr solide gebaut und teilweise gummiert, was eine angenehme Haptik vermittelt.Die Rückseite verfügt über eine Gewindebuchse, mit der das Gerät z.B. auf einem Stativ befestigt werden kann. Das Display ist gut ablesbar und gibt einen schnellen Überblick über den Messmodus.Die Messungen werden entweder sehr schnell oder im Sekundentakt durchgeführt und sind je nach Anwendung geeignet. Besonders bei der Messung von Straßenverkehr ist die höhere Messrate von Vorteil, um kurze, aber hohe Lärmpegelwerte genau zu erfassen.Obwohl die Anzeige Werte sehr stark schwanken kann, gibt es eine Taste, mit der man das Messgerät so einstellen kann, dass immer der höchste gemessene Wert angezeigt wird. Auf diese Weise kann man den Maximalwert präzise erfassen.Insgesamt ist das Messgerät ein nützliches Werkzeug, um die Umgebungslautstärke zu messen. Es ist gut verarbeitet und bietet eine hohe Genauigkeit bei der Messung von Lärmpegeln.

Well, there is good news and bad news. On the positive side, this meter is well packaged with excellent features. It comes with a zipper case and batteries, and even a little screwdriver. The body of the unit has a built-in receiver for the standard tripod screw. There is a "max" and "hold" feature, but also a "fast" and "slow" sampling rate selection, which can help stop the meter numbers from jumping around. Interestingly, it has a dBa and dBc selection, and that is unusual for a decibel meter in this price range. More on that below. The controls are intuitive and the display readable, although the back lighting is not bright.But, there is some bad news as well. I compared this meter to another brand decibel meter that I own, and I have some concerns about accuracy. I don't have test equipment to validate my results, but I do know that the sounds I was measuring in my tests should be in a particular range. The other brand of meter was giving me results in that range, but this Mestek meter was giving me results much higher than are likely.The other brand meter measures on the dBa scale, and when I put this Mestek meter on that same scale selection it gave me results significantly higher. I measured a running saw with both meters at the same time and at the same distance from the saw. The other brand gave me results of about 94 decibels while this Mestek gave me results of about 110 decibels. However, when I switched the Mestek into dBc mode, the readings came down to within 3-4 decibels (higher) of the other meter.The manual states that accuracy is plus or minus 2 decibels, which is the same as the other meter I was using. So, I would suggest that you keep this meter in the dBc mode, which appears to be more accurate.Overall this is a well designed meter with a good feature set, but the accuracy may be doubtful. That said, if you are more concerned about RELATIVE sound levels then perfect accuracy may not be that important.

Decibel meters are useful for 2 primary cases which are measuring the effect of sound on health and hearing, and measuring the response of speakers. For these scenarios you want somewhat different measurements. "A" weighting models the response of the human ear and can be used to determine if something is at safe noise levels, while "C" weighting is more flat and useful for measuring speaker levels, both to see how loud it gets and to integrate it with other speakers.This meter provides both "A" and "C" weighting, in addition to fast and slow response modes and peak hold. These are the standard features you would want in a meter at minimum.Additionally the meter has a backlit display which makes it easier to see in the dark. The display is not very crisp and the backlight is uneven but it does the job.The body of the meter is a bright blue color making it harder to lose in a sea of black speakers and equipment. It's a rubbery material that should protect it from minor drops as well. The battery compartment is held closed with a screw which makes it harder to pop open and lose the batteries but also harder to change them.
