Works great and a good price. My daughter wanted this and she’s been having so much fun with it. Seems like good quality I don’t know much about metal detectors

This OR Jäger Waterproof (IP68) Metal Detector is a very capable metal detector. It has a multitude of abilities and, of course - along with that long list of abilities - it is rather complicated. It is important to safeguard the 20-page manual that comes with the detector. The manual comes in handy for explaining all the wonderful complexity of how the metal detector functions.Along with the metal detector the kit includes headphones, a “survival knife”-like trowel and a nice quality duffel bag for storing everything. The metal detector must be assembled from separate parts and the sketches in the instruction manual are a big help in accomplishing that assembly. Unfortunately, the instructions in the manual describing how to assemble the metal detector are very difficult to follow due to the wording. The awesome-looking knife/trowel that comes with the kit also comes with a handy scabbard that can be easily attached to a belt. This metal detector requires 2 common 9volt batteries. And there are two alkaline 9volt batteries included in the kit.So far i have been using this metal detector while walking around a two acre area where two houses have stood for nearly a century. The detector initially indicated one area that looked interesting so i got out a spade/shovel and started digging. My method was to dig a scoop, then test to see if the detector said “the object” was in the dirt pile or still deeper inside the hole. Eventually “my first treasure find” was uncovered. It turned out to be a rusted steel bracket of some sort with two screws sticking out of it. (In the detector’s defense, the object did register as “ferrous” so i should not have been expecting it to be something like a bar of gold.)Secondly i focussed near the doorways of the two houses where people might tend to spill things out of their pockets (especially coins.) And so far i found one patch approximately 2ft x 3ft where the metal detector repeatedly gave findings of variously nickel, silver and gold. (The nickel and silver are very believable since both metals have been used in common American coinage over the past 100 years. But the possibility of encountering a rare gold coin at that location is just too difficult to believe.) The issue is that there is a thick layer of (indoor) carpeting on top of that 2ft x 3ft area. I will need to cut through that carpeting first to be able to get to the dirt to see what it is that the metal detector is calling nickel, silver and gold. And getting down on my hands and knees to rip out that carpeting is not going to be possible in the next few days. So i will have to update this review when i have the time to tear out the carpeting and dig up that patch of dirt.i can see having a lot of fun with this metal detector as i figure out all its capabilities and settings. It is so very useful that it can differentiate between different metals. That ability to differentiate between rusty iron and precious metals could be a giant help in avoiding spending so much time digging up some random rusted steel bracket with screws sticking out of it.

First off, I'm happy with this metal detector. It's the first one I've owned, but not the first one I've used. It seems well made and is comfortable to use. The included accessories make for a good value as a complete system.I read through the manual and tested the various modes and settings. In operation, the metal detector consistently found various metal objects buried in the dirt. The displayed often incorrectly identified the metal as nickle or silver when it was not. In all fairness, I did not expect it to be able to identify metal types, so I'm not disappointed. The display is difficult to read in full sunlight and some sort of a sunshade may be helpful.I find this metal detector invaluable around the farm for locating various metal items (valves, posts, dropped tools, etc. buried in the dirt or grass. For that it works well.I would get another one of these if I needed one in the future. Good unit.
