I got this for dog-to-dog evaluations at the animal shelter I volunteer at. So far I have only had pit bull type dogs to do evaluations with, and as the product notes it’s moreso for breeds with a longer nose. It did stay on a pit bull/ shepherd mix (pictured here) but would be more ideal for a medium size (40-50lb) dog with a narrower head and longer snout. I wanted a metal muzzle since they are bite proof, since the Baskervilles aren’t. The price of this one seemed like a good value. It has been effective in keeping the dogs safe during evals but again, wouldn’t recommend for “blocky head” breeds as the fit isn’t ideal for them. It was very easy to use and I loved that it had multiple points of contact for sizing updates. I love the nose padding; a lot of muzzles don’t come with those. The leather straps are of good quality, too.The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the fasteners of the muzzle’s straps seem really flimsy/cheap; I wish they had upgraded to something more sturdy since the muzzle won’t be effective if the dog can paw it off. And because it doesn’t allow for proper pant room, I found out after doing more research. Since I am only using it for a short period that is ok but I wouldn’t bring a dog for an hike with this on unless it had proper pant room.Overall, though, for the low price this muzzle does the trick in promoting safety! The wire basket of the muzzle measures 7” long at the longest point (chin) and 4.5” at the shortest (top). It measures 3”-4” high (3” at tip, 4” at opening).

The large size fit my Hound/Shepard mix (with a longer nose) perfectly. And it’s not heavy so he’s accepting it much better than others I have tried.

Sometimes, for safety or specific training situations, you need a muzzle that means business. This CleverTail Metal Doberman Muzzle definitely fits that bill. When I unboxed it, my first thought was, "Yep, that's a sturdy piece of hardware!"The metal cage construction is robust – it feels solid, well-put-together, and like it could genuinely withstand some serious pressure. The wire basket design seems like it would offer good airflow while still being very secure. For a dog that needs a truly tough and reliable muzzle, the build quality here appears to be top-notch. It looks like it's built to last, no flimsy bits in sight. Now, for the main event: Philo. My one-year-old Great Dane, who possesses the energy of a caffeinated squirrel, the strength of a small bear, and the wriggly escape artistry of Houdini. The design of this muzzle, with its buckles for fitting, is secure. Very secure. The challenge, as any owner of a "spirited" (read: wonderfully wild) dog will understand, is the initial application and adjustment.Actually wrestling this onto Philo and getting those buckles cinched correctly while he's performing his interpretive dance of "What is this new contraption and can I eat it/escape it/turn it into a game?" is going to be a feat of strength, speed, and possibly divine intervention. It's not a fault of the muzzle itself – it needs to be secure, and buckles are a reliable way to achieve that. It's just the reality of fitting such a device on a dog who isn't exactly thrilled with the idea of new headwear.I'm giving this 4 out of 5 stars because the quality and sturdiness are undeniably excellent. It looks like it would be incredibly effective once fitted. It loses a star only because, for a dog like Philo, the "getting it on and adjusted" phase might look too much like a friendly wrestling match, and I suspect he might view the muzzle itself as an intriguing (and possibly destructible) new toy before we even get to its intended purpose. If you have a dog who is more amenable to being fitted with gear, or if you're a seasoned pro at canine wrangling, the quality of this muzzle is definitely there. For us and Philo? The jury's still out on whether my wrestling skills are up to par, but the muzzle itself is impressive!

I really like the wire basket and nose pad on this muzzle, which adds comfort for the dog, but that's about where my favorite points stop. The straps which are supposed to secure the muzzle onto the dog, a very important part of this tool, are very cheap thin synthetic letter. I am very worried that these would tear with a powerful dog like this muzzle is supposed to be made for. As long as your dog's measurements fall within the given measurements, it will fit fine. Again, though, I am very concerned that this will not be durable enough to use it for my aggressive rescue dog in training.

Putting a muzzle on a dog is a safety necessity at times, and a metal one like this is probably the best choice for large and strong dogs. The metal is sturdy, and well put together, I can't imagine any dog being able to bite someone through it unless people put their fingers through the gaps.Speaking of the gaps, thisiswhere I'd rate this a bit down. Fingers can very easily fit through the gaps and into the dog's space inside the muzzle. Also, the one I received seems to have been slightly misaligned when manufactured. Either that or it bent slightly in shipping, but for all my trying I can't get it to be straightagain, so it fits a little askew for my usage. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but since I can't, I gaveit 3.
