This kit could not be more cheaply made! It is TERRIBLE! The thread on both the spools and the bobbins cannot be "started". The thread has been incorporated in the other thread. I could only access 2! The thread is very thin and ragged. It can easily break while sewing in a normal manner. The needles themselves have the smallest eyes I have ever seen. They are also incredibly thin - they bend easily. I love the colors and the fact that both spools and bobbins are included. If only they could actually be used. I would have gladly spent more money on a kit like this with good quality products. Do yourself a favor and look for something else.

I like kits like these, I have actually bought several different ones. Not one of them though has had thread that was good enough quality for machine sewing, except for this one! I have been using the threads for several days now and I am very pleasantly surprised at their strength and evenness. Sewing machines put enormous stress on the thread to get the tension right. Not only that, but even small variations in the thread thickness can cause snapped thread, broken needles and messy tangles of thread underneath your fabric, or even in the machines mechanism. If you have any of these problems, first suspect your thread is not good enough quality. I normally use 100% polyester thread, often sold for sergers. It's not the best thread and you may even get the odd problem with it, but not many and it can be really cheap. I get cones of 10,000m (11,000 yards) for around $6. The sad fact is that the more expensive machines usually handle poor quality thread better, at least for sewing (not embroidery though). That means these kits are often bought by beginners to try out sewing with an inexpensive machine and then they get discouraged and give up on the hobby when the thread is always a mess. What a shame! Spend a little more on separate reels or cones of thread when you first start, and you will avoid a lot of the disappointments. While the actual thread in this kit is about as good as you will get without costing a lot of money, I cannot recommend using the metal bobbins inside your sewing machine. Most machines now have plastic parts and metal bobbins wear them more quickly. One of my machines actually says not to use metal ones at all. I do have a few metal bobbins, and they are very smooth so as to not snag the thread, or wear parts too quickly. The metal bobbins in do this kit are very rough and one of my bobbins even had two side plates on one side, so it was much thicker and uneven. You do not have to waste them though, they do look very attractive, and I am going to use the metal bobbins for craft purposes, perhaps like for the numerals on a sewing themed clock? I might wind the remaining threads on to empty bobbins I have that came with my machine. I also noticed that in the kit, the colors on the bobbins are different from the colors of the reels of thread for about 1/3 of the colors. I also noticed that some bobbins had a lot less thread on than others. As others have noticed, it can sometimes be impossible to find the ends of the thread on the bobbins. This is because they are wound quite loosely until they are cut, when the thread pulls right and will often bury itself in the loosely wound coils. What I do is guess where the end will be close by, and get a needle under just one coil of thread. I then turn the bobbins round and round until the end pops out. If not, then I turn the bobbin the other way. This usually gets the end for you.My scissors were not very good quality either. A very good way to test them is to try cutting a sheet of toilet paper. Most will cut across the grain, but only good ones will cut with the grain. Mine failed quite badly here, so much so, that they would not even cut the threads most of the time.My stitch ripper was useless it was so blunt. You can sharpen them yourself though if you have a bead reamer. I had not, so I am buying one as I use so much repurposed fabric, that I am always wearing out seam rippers I use them so much!My needles and thread were fine, as was the tape measure. My items were all taped firmly in place and had a very sturdy cardboard box for the flimsy plastic tray. So all of my items anyway were in their correct places. For all the problems have mentioned, I am using my kit for hand sewing, and so it is good value for that. I even got two bobbins of fluorescent orange thread in mine, that will look great when used decoratively. This kit is not professional quality, but it is not a professional price either. I think it is very good value for the money.

Complete starter sewing kit. It would be a nice "boost/refill" for a current sewing kit too. Only down side would be the case it came in. It would have been nice to have a harder plastic type. This is flimsy and the items seem like they could fall out easily. For the price, I can put everythingin a container. Overall, very good buy!

Great set! It has everything you need. Every color you could need. One stop shop. Nice quality. Not dollar store junk. I really like it. Only thing, I wish it had a lid, or case or something. That plastic is very flimsy, so you will want to transfer it to something else.

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews about this kit. I feel like this kit meets all my expectations. Fast shipping a variety of colors what more could you ask for. My only complaint would be the scissors...they are dull. These scissors are like preschool scissors that you pack in your children's pencil bag.. Suggest replacing the scissors. Other than that great sewing kit!

I purchased this for my daughter to go along with a First-time sewing machine. This kit has everything you could want or need for a smaller sewing machine and its been really nice to have around the house! If you purchase the Lil' Sew machine, you definitely will want to grab this...and its at a great price. Im very glad we purchased this... now I just need to get the hang of using a sewing machine! ;)

First, this comes from China so if you don't want to wait a few weeks for delivery skip this product. Second, The colors are different from what is in the picture. That is ok for me but what I didn't like was that the Spools of thread look to be of the larger size in the picture but they are not. Also the scissors are the size kids would use. I haven't taken them out of the package yet but they look like they are very cheap and won't be of much use.If you are looking for a kit to give you some additional thread colors with matching bobbins and don't care about the time it takes to get to you then this is a cheap option.
