I've always seen videos of FLIR cameras being used to detect areas where outside air is leaking into a home around windows, doors, chimneys, as well as being used to detect heat failures on electronic devices. I always wanted one but they cost so much money that I just couldn't justify it.Then I saw this thermal camera which plugs into your phone's USB-C port and lets you use your phone's screen to see the heat signatures of everything surrounding you. Most FLIR cameras I've seen are a small 1" - 2" screen, but since this camera uses your phone's screen to display the image, it's so much larger.I immediately tried this out on my windows, doors, and PC which get really hot. I saw pretty much what I expected, a LOT of cold coming in from the outside, and of course heat being generated from my computer's CPU and graphics adapter. There are many good uses for this such as pointing them at your outlets and circuit breaker panel to ensure there are no heat issues as a result of electrical failure, that is something you want to identify and fix before you start smelling the start of an electrical fire. The screen displays the temperatures it's identifying and the interface is very friendly. I'm still learning how to use all of the features it has, but it's easy to just turn it on and start watching temperature. The camera is so small that I keep it in my laptop bag should I ever need it, as I work in IT and travel often. If you're a professional who needs a thermal camera, or just a gadget junkie (I'm both), this is an excellent tool to add to your kit.

Tested on a Motorola Edge 2024 running Android 14. Must have the proprietary Mileseey Thermal app. It does a great job of giving temperature and contrasting hot from cold spots. However note that the blue to red to yellow on the screen seems to only be comparison to everything else on the screen, so if you move the camera to another area entirely, the whole area may be colder, but may have spots that seem hot because of the red or yellow on the image; ultimately make note of the actual degrees of temperature indicated by the app in areas. The app can also be a bit slow to update the image if you move too quickly... be patient when moving around. All in all it does work really well and gives a sharp image with color contrast for temp differences and gives an accurate temperature reading.

In order to use this device you must download an app to your phone. When I searched it in the Google Play Store, three versions of the app appeared with no info showing which would be the correct one. There is very limited information on any of the three apps in the Play Store and only a handful of people have installed the app. There are no public posts or developer feedback. The main thing is this is a Chinese created and owned app and all companies in China under Chinese law must provide a backdoor to the government. So, I will not be installing this on my phone. It’s a shame as this seems like it would be a neat device for checking heat loss in homes.

Finding this radiator leak in my van went from a frustrating guessing game to a quick detective job once I plugged this thermal camera into my phone! After downloading the app and connecting the device, I let my engine run for about ten minutes then crawled underneath with my newly equipped heat-vision phone. The contrast was immediate and striking there among the bright yellow-red exhaust components was a subtle blue patch near a radiator hose connection showing exactly where the tiny leak was hiding. I really liked seeing this invisible world of temperature differences with such clarity on my regular phone screen. I've since found myself wandering around my house spotting cold air infiltration around windows and doors, plus some surprising insulation gaps in the attic. There's a slight lag if you move too quickly, so you need to be deliberate when scanning, but for automotive troubleshooting, home maintenance, or just satisfying technical curiosity, this little device gives you professional-level insights without the professional-level price tag.

This thermal camera worked well and it integrates seamlessly with my smartphone. I use it for home inspections and it revealed hidden heat leaks with clarity. I appreciate its compact design which fits easily in my pocket and the interface feels intuitive. I rely on it for outdoor projects and it performs well in varying light conditions. I value its durability as it withstands regular use and the battery life supports extended sessions. I consider it a practical tool and it delivers consistent results every time.

I've used several thermal cameras over the years, but the MiLESEEY TR256i stands out. The high-resolution 256 x 192 sensor captures detailed images, far surpassing older models I've tried. It's perfect for quickly spotting heat or water leaks, electrical shorts, and even wildlife around the house. The app features are intuitive and enhance the camera's functionality with tools like temperature tracking and regional measurement. It's impressive how it locks onto temperature extremes in real-time, making it super efficient for inspections or diagnostics. One of my favorite aspects is its compact design—lightweight enough to carry around easily or attach to any Android device running version 7.0 or higher. This makes it a versatile tool whether you're at home or on the go.Overall, if you're looking for a reliable thermal imaging solution that doesn't require a hefty investment, this is a must-have gadget.
