There really is only one other commercially available handheld 4-20mA clamp meter that can be compared to this one. It is the Fluke 771.I have used the Fluke 771 plenty throughout the years, but have always felt it lacked accuracy and has inconsistent reading behavior. For a $540 meter, frankly, its a disappointment. This led me to seek alternates.I got my hands on the Milwaukee 2231-20, and almost immediately I had the chance to use it in the field. All I can say is wow! Very accurate and very steady readings. Night and day difference to the Fluke 771's I have used. Meter feels robust and well protected, unlike the 771. Clamp mechanism is superior. The black background makes it easy to read, especially in the sun. The only real drawback for some - although I don't consider it to be a drawback - is that you must remove the clamp to use it. On the Fluke you can leave it in and be able to use it. In my experience you always end up having to take it out, so no big deal.Personally, I don't want to use a clamp meter to source signals (which the Fluke 772, 773 can do at a much, much higher price). Sourcing signals can get a little dicey sometimes, and you are better off using cheap, disposable type devices like Mr. Signal Pro or Loop Simulator Pro in the $100-$125 range. My Fluke 789 can source, but I use the "sacrificial lamb" signal generators first. That's just my preference. To each their own.For the price, this is a no brainer. The Milwaukee 2231-20 is worlds better in performance over the Fluke 771, and costs a third of the price. I might buy a second one to keep as a spare, but this thing feels like it will last many, many years and I will never get to use it. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this meter if you need a clamp on 4-20mA meter and don't need/want to source with it. Be smart, source with the cheap stuff.

Why would you buy this when you can get a Fluke that does the same thing for less, or a Fluke that can source a 4-20ma signal for a little bit more.
