This is a nice little desktop sound source. It has a nice sound to it using the supplied mallet. This is a small unit, so it's a bit higher pitch and doesn't ring out as long as a bigger unit would.I like pairing this with a microphone and a granular synthesizer to create bellish ethereal soundscapes.This instrument lives on my desk with some of my other acoustic sound sources.This drum is powder coated with a thick enamel. I got a green model, and the enamel has flecks of brown and green on it. It looks lovely, and 20 dollars, it's not a bad price if you are curious about these steel drums.

I got this to use in my elementary school classroom with my 3 j 4 graders to teach tonality in music. It is a nice little teaching aide and the kids really like it. It is small but well made and easy for the kids to play. Since the different tones are numbered, I can write up songs (using the numbers) for the kids to play.

The instrument is in tune and played a scale nicely. The color and construction is very nice, as well.There are a few minor things to note:The gold numbers are applied on as decals with transparent squares. I don't care for this look, but the item does come with two other sets of numbers you can use, so the gold numbering can be removed and changed.The unit I received has a slight dentin the top of it's dome, no paint discoloration, but I could see someone being annoyed by the imperfection.My main wish is for a better mallet. The included one is a little too light and small. The size of the instrument is also something to consider, the tiny tounges can be difficult to strike with accuracy.Still, these tiny issues are nitpicks overall. The instrument is very nice and effective.

Working on decorating a yoga/stress relief retreat room I found this little rain drum and new I wanted to add it into my room.Upon unboxing I was surprised to find that this drum came with a song book. I’m not musically inclined but like playing around with drums so the addition of the book was much appreciated. It was easy to use when coupled with the corresponding letters on the drum face. This has a nice sound and is easy to use with the enclosed drumstick. It’s actually really fun to play around with and the tone is pleasant, rather similar to a xylophone. Because it has a pleasant sound, I find even handing this over to the kids to play with isn’t so annoying like regular drums might be. And with this being well made, I worry less about grandkids damaging it.Overall, I really like this set. At the present price of $19.99, this seems with in fair market value. I think it would make a wonderful gift especially for a musically inclined child.

These drums have a lovely ringing tone and the tone of each tongue can be tuned though I haven't made any alterations to any of the drums that I have. I'm still at the play-by-ear stage and have much room to improve. I just try to stay away from any tones that may sound disharmonious to me. It is like a combination of a chime and a drum, not easy to integrate into traditional music, but interesting to try or just for producing resonant tones. I have an 8" tongue drum and it's hard to compare the smaller drums with the voluminous sound that emanates from the larger drum. I haven't tried using outside in the rain, but I found that the sound is best when the drum is elevated off the surface even if it's just using the plug at the bottom. Some kind of stand would improve the sound. The more musical instruments the better in my opinion, and this drum adds range to my larger drum.
