Topaz stone was smaller than what was shown on Amazon but everything else was ok. I test scratch the stones to each other and then to glass as well as to other sapphires and a diamond. Seems to check out. The diamond passed a simple diamond tester as well but it doesn't look like any natural uncut stone that I've seen. I'm still new to all this but its a fun kit to test other stones.

I purchased this hoping to use it to test the hardness of rocks before I polished them. The three hardest rated stones in the kit wouldn’t scratch a petosky stone, which ranges between 4 or 5 on the Mohs scale.

This kit has been super-helpful. I just used it to test the stones on a bracelet. And I've used it lots of times to help determine what rocks I've got, so I can make sure to tumble them with rocks of similar hardness.
