this thing is a lifesaver. I didn't realize that there was a moisture sensor that I could use that didn't penetrate the wall at least a little bit! this is awesome.I have had a stead leak in my roof in the past couple of years that was patched up. I wanted to see if there was any lasting moisture, as well as make sure there isn't any moisture where I suspected another leak. I was able to not only pinpoint where the leak was in the roof, I was able to find exactly where it was pooling slowly over time and get all of it taken care of. treated for mold, dried it out, sealed and now problem free.this is a must have for any home owner that wants to try to DIY.granted, when it comes to water damage, if you aren't sure, get a pro to help. which is exactly what I did to make sure that my assumptions were right before I moved forward, I luckily have a friend in insurance, and was able to help me out.totally worth it! easy to use, accurate and makes a huge difference!

Any woodworker knows you want the moisture of the wood your working to probably be between 6-8% if you're going to be using it for an indoor project. This is because wood expands as it absorbs water and contract in a dryer environment This can lead to warping and cracking and just generally messing up your beautifully hand made furniture project. But how many people actually read the wood moisture. Not enough until something screws up.This little device self-calibrates and not only reads wood but also brick and drywall in case you're afraid that you have water damage. It has both a wand and the pin. The pin leaves mark but are useful if you want to try to get a point to point resistance reading as opposed to an induction resistance reading. However, unless you are afraid of lines in a wall, the induction reading should be just fine for a wood worker.I found this device to accurately see the difference on the wood I've stored outside from inside. Does that mean it's completely accurate? Couldn't tell you. But at least it registers the difference in a humid climate. And indeed, it did a good job on reading the local humidity.The package comes with a carrying case and the three necessary AAA batteries. The compartment is a screw protected compartment and they ever throw in the little phillips head so you can open it to install the batteries. That extra nod to making sure you're going to be able to use the machine, and very good instruction booklet, tells me that they're at least thinking of the customer and moves this from a 4 star, "it does the job" to a 5 star, "they're thinking of the customer" review. This is a review of the Porometisto Moisture Meter, POROMETISTO Pin & Pinless Moisture Meter.I initially ordered this to detect and measure potential leaks and moisture in my walls. I suspect that my windows have been leaking, so I wanted to see if any mold or water has gathered on the walls. This meter was able to detect trace amounts of moisture; however, I’m unsure of its accuracy.I initially tested the meter directly in water, and it surprisingly only gave me a 50% rating. I’m not sure if that was a good test or if the sensor is supposed to be used that way. Before using it, I went through he calibration process, so I think it was detecting correctly. I went outside the day after it snowed, and everything was melting, so I would think that it would be giving me readings, especially when setting it directly in water. I tested the siding, and it did peg 100% in a couple of areas. However, these areas were directly in the sunlight and seemed dry. I switched to the probe, went through the calibration again, and couldn’t get any readable results with it at all.So far, I’m not sure of the results of this moisture meter. It seems somewhat effective, but the fact that it doesn’t entirely peg when placed in water makes me doubt it a bit. Hidden metal, such as nails, may create false readings, so there may be just too many adjacent nails that give false readings. Therefore, perhaps home wall moisture inspections aren’t a good use case for this meter.

I frequently accompany my boyfriend on jobs (he's a carpenter/roofer) and noticed that he always mentions that he doesn't a moisture reader on him and has to borrow one; so when I came across this tool I immediately added it to my cart. We just finished testing it out to make sure it worked, and it worked perfectly (though you definitely need to give the instructions a brief glance over and make sure to change into Fahrenheit if that's your preferred measurement.My boyfriend especially likes that it comes with both the pin and pinless measurement. At the time of writing this, it's about 159 USD, which is a little pricey compared to some of the other products at common hardware stores (which normally fall in the 80-100 dollar range).
