The tool was almost too wide to push the valves down without touching the shim it’s usable but it may be worth spending a little more on a better version to save some time and headache

Worked perfectly to shim my valves in an '82 Suzuki GS850!

Despite the fact that this valve adjustment method is somewhat cumbersome, this tool does what we expect from it. However, due to the very nature of tappets and shims, it may be difficult to insert when shim is actually too thick (as may happen when valves have been lapped); consider using a small piece of wood/plastic between cam and shim before trying to properly insert the tool.

This worked perfectly, finally my old Suzuki is back to tip top running condition. I did not have any problems with this tool. fit and finish was excellent.

When swapping out valve shims, this tool will help on bikes that don't have shim under the bucket set-ups. If you have to ask what that is...this probably isn't a tool you need

Finally had time to check the valves on my $200 Craigslist 1982 GS650. Worked brilliantly as usual for Motion Pro products. Bike had 6 (barely) tight valves, but only needed two new shims. Sweet! Valves adjusted, carbs synched (with the Motion Pro Synch Tool), and this bike is as good as new with 35,000 miles.

It can take some figuring to use it correctly but I imagine it is just as bad with the OEM tool. I personally think the easiest way to use it is to slide under the cam as you rotate to fully closed on a valve (ie - cam lobe pointing away from the valve). Just make sure the rib (center portion that protrudes the most rides atop the shim bucket. Use tweezers to remove and replace shims.Remember never turn the engine over with a missing shim. If you need to remove more than one shim simultaneously to juggle them around use a quarter as a temporary shim to prevent cam lobe damage.

This is a good quality specialized tool needed to adjust the valves on Suzuki direct actuated double overhead cam engines like the GS1000. It is used to depress the valves so the the adjustment shims can be replaced. Looks almost identical to the original Suzuki tool.

If you're getting this you already know what it does. I used this to get at the valve shims in my Suzuki GS500E, and the tool worked exactly as it's supposed to.Words of wisdom I wish I'd stumbled upon before doing the job though: DO NOT ROTATE THAT CAMSHAFT WITHOUT A SHIM IN EVERY BUCKET. Swap shims, replace shims, whatever, but an empty shim bucket will gouge the cam lobes something fierce.
