I keep this in car for emergencies, which thankfully hasn't happened. This is a 'nice to have' item.

Love the different possible uses and will keep this shouted in my trunk at all time. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because the shovel and accessories done break down into a small manageable kit. There are loose pieces that can be lost unless the shovel is fully assembled. I had to keep it in the box it arrived in.

I always thought I need one of these shovels in my emergency luggage; This tool "Sirius"ly crossed that bridge, I am keeping this in my car. This is a heavy gauge, well machined, great design survival shovel. Its pieces mount to each other perfectly and don't wobble. It is a compact solid tool that you can rely on.It comes in a carton box, all pieces embedded in to a plastic foam. They seem small but once you mount all pieces it becomes a decent tool. Handle pieces have a nice wall thickness. The head piece is also thick and feels strong. One of its edges is quite sharp.I think this is a great tool to have for camping, backpacking, hiking, unexpected surprises of road trips especially on snowy and muddy conditions. This will fit anywhere and will not be a nuisance even for a backpacker because it is pretty light.Overall this is a great kit to have and well worth the price. Highly recommended.

I carry this in the trunk of my car for emergency use, primarily as a shovel. It takes up very little space but once assembled becomes a very usable small shovel that can be fine for activities such as dingle a latrine when camping, putting out a fire. digging a small rain trenchAssembly is easy and the shovel is very usable. Most of the other tools are less so,

Overall the shouvel feels tough and sturdy for any emergency jobs or casual camping needs you might have.+ easy assembly+ sturdy build+ quick reconfiguration+ multifunctional- the cover is kind of garbage- while good for small tasks, probably better for emergencies, than recurring daily use.

Like many multi-function tools this shovel does more than just dig, but does not necessarily excel at everything. Don't get me wrong, I do like this overall as this is much more solid & versatile than other camping shovels I have. Once assembled & everything is tight, this is nice and solid.Once fully assembled this is a solid shovel & digs well & does not get loose when using as a shovel. The saw blade on the side of the shovel works pretty well. You can store the extra silver blade in the handle when assembled as it will screw into the inside of a handle section. When using as an ax you will need to constantly tighten the handle at the shovel end as it loosens after every hit.The whistle is in the end under the glass breaker & the flint rod is attached to it. It helps to pull down on the flint to loosen the whistle. The whistle is not very loud, just high pitched so you will want a better whistle with you.The flint sparks well once you wear off the black paint. The smaller silver saw blade does not work that well, it does not cut that great and binds up, so small twigs only. You can use it with the small silver handle it is attached to or you can use in the black handle section for better leverage. If you remove the handle section off of the shovel, you can fit all sections in the camp cover & hold closed with the small Velcro straps. The silver blade section will fit inside one of the larger handle sections so it does not fall out. It would be nicer if the case had a larger fold over flap to better hold everything in more securely. This would be great for backpacking, keeping in your car/trunk for emergencies or in your camper.
