This is a fun little decoration to add to your house, bedroom, bathroom, office, classroom or wherever. It’s a little confusing to figure out how the bubbles and water and air pressure all work to make this a more proper flowing product… However, if you just play around with it enough, it’s easy to figure out intuitively. There is a QR code that you can scan and watch a video, but I didn’t find that as helpful nor were the actual instructions. I found myself doing a couple searches on similar types of products to really get a better idea of what the instructions were. Overall it’s a pretty piece of interactive art that can be used over and over again. It’s not secured to the base so I would exercise caution so it doesn’t break.

Beautiful. Fun to watch it create alien landscapes, and very relaxing. It's well made, fairly heavy glass. The stand is simple plastic, but perfectly functional. There's a bit of a handling curve using this thing though... you have to:1. Hold it so the sand is at the bottom, shake it VIGOROUSLY side to side (not up and down, not forward and back, but side to side, edge to edge -- in order to accumulate a bunch of tiny bubbles in the top. If there's just one big bubble, the effect doesn't work. Then, let the sand settle a bit.2. SLOWLY tilt the disc so it's flat, like a plate. Keep slowly tilting (with the sand side tilting up UP) and adjust the level until the bubbles form a fairly uniform layer below the sand.3. Slowly tilt the disc all the way over, so the sand is on top and it's being held up by the layer of little bubbles you created by shaking it on step 1.4. Place it in it's frame, and adjust left and right in tiny amounts to get the "horizon" flat and the sand drifting down in little falls. ENJOY the EFFECT and LANDSCAPES it CREATES!Recommended. GIDDYUP!

This 3D moving sand picture is seriously way cool. My husband wanted to grab it because it was so unique. Definitely gives you a sense of relaxation while watching. The sand flows whichever direction you turn it. Loved how it has little gold flecks throughout. Purple & White coloring on the sand is very beautiful as well. You can almost make small landscapes if you try. Overall, a fun activity to mess around with on some down time. Size is perfect, and looks very pretty on display. You can also use the needle provided to add or take away air bubbles. Quality is outstanding, would make a great gift. We do recommend

The first small moving sand art displays I bought were much, much more expensive than this one, and did not look as nice. The frame and base are the same simple plastic, but the sand mixture has improved and glass instead of plastic helps with getting the air/water ratio right. For today's price of $8, these make nice, affordable gifts.Getting the right amount of air is not only a personal choice, but an art skill instead of an engineering one. Another moving sand art display I have came with a card to hold up to the glass to show what the right amount of air would be: nobody in my household liked how the sand moved or didn't move with that amount of air. Trial and error. And repeated with big changes in air pressure and temperature.Yet everybody in my family wants their own moving sand art. Some are better than other at "fixing" the air pocket, but they help each other out and nobody has given theirs up (although they do trade them around). The family voted for this one as having the best glitter bits for with bright gold and other hues in the glints. Love it when the sun streams in and hits those bits!Keep the very sharp syringe stored where curious small hands can't get to it.

My autistic daughter became absolutely fascinated with one of these at the library one day, and I've been looking for one for her ever since, but the $30+ price tag on most of the ones I'd seen was too much for us. When I found this one for $10, I pounced, and I'm glad I did. She absolutely loves it: the purple color, the gold glitter accent, the mesmerizing motion and the artistic results. It did need adjusted straight out of the box - there was so much air in it that the sand couldn't fall at all - and I did end up taking an entire syringe of air out, but that was an easy enough process. I imagine that temperature and atmospheric pressure can both affect the volume of air in the product and it may well need seasonal adjustment. It's easy enough to do, however, so I'm not deducting anything for that. The product is glass, but it's well packaged in foam sheets to prevent damage in transit, and we're keeping the packaging for storage when not in use so that no accidents happen. (Cats will be cats, after all.) It's also not bank-breaking to replace it if by any chance an accident does end up cracking it. I don't know that I would suggest giving it to a very young child, at least not without supervision, but for my 9 year old, glass is not a big problem.Overall, we're highly satisfied with this, and I certainly would recommend it. 5 stars.
