Installation

Step.1

Remove the piston mounting bolt from the pulley

Step.2

Remove the piston connecting rod from the pulley

Step.3

Loose four screws around the cylinder head and then remove the head

Step.4

Install the piston rod into the new sleeve and put the new ring on the top of the piston

Step.5

Install new gaskets of the same shape on the valve plate

Step.6

Install the new piston and new sleeve back on the pump

From what I could tell of the failure there was significant softness of the metals used in the components that were replaced in this kit.

Installed and immediately tank wouldn’t build pressure. Took everything back apart to find that the piston ring was almost completely gone after just 2 minutes of running. Don’t waste your time with this kit and go get a kit from a reputable dealer

Bought this for a Dewalt D55168 air compressor as described in the specifications. Problem is that there are several different types of, type 1-9 with the same model #. They don't tell you that. Bought the first one which blew the seal within seconds, returned for a replacement, 2nd one lasted almost 45 seconds and it blew also. Contacted Dewalt and found out about the difference in model types. This part will fit the earlier series but not the middle or later ones. Check your model and type listed on your compressor or call Dewalt service for the correct part numbers before buying this item. Quality of piston kit offered was good as long as it will fit your type series.
