Due to the offset handle, these chisels can access hard to reach places that other chisels cannot touch. They are also perfect for flush trimming. The blades are bent at a 30 degree angle and are made from fine-grained, nicely tempered chrome-manganese steel and hardened to 59 HRc. The blades are have a slimmer cross section than other bench chisels. Cutting edges are ground at a 25 degree angle. Handles are stained Hornbeam with solid brass ferrules. Blades have well-seated heavy steel tangs.

Solid construction that takes and keeps a nice edge. I have found Narex products to be fantastic for the price. I have an extensive collection of them and use them all regularly. None have ever disappointed me.

It's a very nice chisel, and worth the price. However I ordered wondering if it was more than one chisel. 4 chisels are listed, That must be the 1/2" wide model number listed at the end. Hmmmmmmm............again great chisel, but why list four different sizes when you are shipping one? why not just say 1/2" chisel with Hornbeam handle. See below for the actual listed description. What's that sound like?Narex Premium Cranked Neck Chisel 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", and 1" with Hornbeam Handles 813307-813325 (1/2")Sounds a little strange, whatever. still happy.

On the rare occasion when a cranked neck chisel is needed, this is an excellent option. The chisel sharpened correctly and holds a good edge, and the cranked necks makes clearing out grooves in wood super easy.

I finally added a cranked chisel to my set of Narex paring chisels. As expected, the chisel arrived with the blade coated in rust-preventative lacquer, with light milling marks on the back. After stripping off the lacquer it only took 15 minutes on a diamond lapping plate to flatten the back, which is pretty good compared to many new chisels. It took another 10 minutes to polish the bevel and back on a 4000/8000 grit waterstone and put a razor sharp microbevel on the edge. The hornbeam handle looked rather dry, with no obvious finish other than the brown stain. To keep it from getting grubby and to make it look better I rubbed on several coats of TruOil gunstock finish. That filled in the grain and really improved the looks.Narex chisels are good steel and a bargain compared to other quality brands. I deducted one star because the back could have been flatter and hornbeam deserves to be finished nicer, but it is a good tool that I'll enjoy for the rest of my life.

I bought the half inch one and its perfect for the jobs I use it for. Cleaning glue squeeze out, flush trimming small areas on the work piece, getting into tight corners, cleaning out long dados, and anywhere else that you would like to use a normal chisel but can't because the handle is in the way. I should've bought this thing years ago!Pros:Well builtEasy to sharpenAwesome for the jobs listed above and maybe some others that aren'tCons:I'm going to have to break down and buy the right and left skew chisel versions if I can find them. That's the only way to make this tool any better.Wish they made a cranked neck chisel holder for my tool belt because that is where it would stay. I use it that much on all my projects.
