Admittedly I bought these because they’re cute… and they really are!The stone is decently thick that it won’t break easily. Size is perfect - even for large writers like myself.I used acrylic paint markers to write out the labels for my cut flower garden. The surface is smooth enough to write on and in the cases where I ran short on space, I was able to still write on the beveled edge. One downside which may be unique to me- the slate sign spins around to the back without the labeling visible - by walking by them closely. I have a VERY narrow walkway which might be more of the problem.Other than that these function well and look fantastic!Highly recommend!

These are GARDEN MARKERS and thus would be outside in soil. After about 6 months in the ground, I pulled one out and it was totally rusted. Eventually, the post will fail. I may figure out how to either coat the post or find a sleeve to keep it dry. So far, they are standing up well to gardeners tromping around them. The slate "sign" is rustic, edges are irregular, however, this is a good look. I marked mine with white paint markers which are going to hold up fine. The wax marker that comes with it is a joke. So light, you can't even read the writing. I used them for a garden tour in my yard and they looked very neat and attractive. Even with the downsides, this one is a winner.

I don't use the pencil that it comes with - just doesn't stand out - instead, I use white chalk markers, the Uni Posca markers in particular as they work the best with these slate labels. I love the fact that you can stick it on the ground using the stake or hang them on a tree. Very durable for rain and other elements, highly recommend!

We decided to make our outdoor trees, so we knew which were editable berries and which were not. I bought a paint marker so that it does not come off. The only problem I see is when the wind blows it turns the sign around because there is nothing to hold it in place in the ground.

I had been looking for plant tags for my vegetable garden pots on the porch. Most were flimsy and would not stick up above the foliage. This are high quality and with care should last a lifetime.
