About this item

  • 【3 Axis Pan & Tilt Head (Non Geared)】NEEWER GM37 features 2 handles for 3 individual angle adjustment. The tilt and pan handle lets you rotate the camera 360° and tilt it +90°/-60° or +90°/-50°, while the vertical tilt handle can promptly convert the camera from horizontal to vertical shooting. Damping friction control and counterbalance allow fluid and comfortable camera positioning, with a max load capacity of 13.2 lb/6 kg, making it a stable and heavy duty camera stabilizer during precise movements
  • 【+15°/-15° Precise Leveling Base】A bowl shaped leveling base enables you to pivot the camera 360° and slightly tilt it between -15° and +15° when precise adjustment is needed. After achieving an ideal angle, tighten the screw knob to keep the camera stationary. Two bubble levels help you always keep the camera straight and get an accurate composition
  • 【360° Scaled Panoramic Base】Use the professional pan base to smoothly swivel the camera for panorama photography and videography. 360° scale markings help you revolve the camera with high accuracy and a dial knob can securely lock the camera in place
  • 【Arca Type Quick Release Plate】Attach the mounting plate to your DSLR camera, mirrorless camera, or cinema camera via the 1/4" screw and instantly mount it on the head thanks to the Arca type quick release system. Compatible with Sony Canon Nikon and other DSLR cameras. Nonslip rubber pads avoid scratches and two anti drop screws can prevent your valuable equipment from falling and damaging
  • 【Retractable Handles & 3/8" Thread】Extend the handles for effortless tilt and pan, and retract them for space saving storage. The 3/8" bottom thread is compatible with a wide range of tripods, monopods, camera sliders, and camera dollies

I have used other brand video Panheads and want to find an all-around Panheads for my digital/video camera that fits on a carbon fiber tripod for landscape photography. I found this online and it is a perfect fit for my needs the price is a lot less expensive than a name brand. The material, quality and functionality of this 3-way pan/tilt head are beyond my expectations. I have owned many NEEWER products and am very satisfied with them.

This tripod head takes me back to the 1970s where almost all tripods had two handles, one for left-right and one for forward-back. Once you've used this kind of device, it's very hard to accept a ball-head design. So, you may ask, why not five stars? It's that goofy leveling "dish", billed as a feature but it's really a hindrance. Located between the two handles, it's frankly a bit silly. If you change the level using that feature, you're basically giving away any hope of level panning. So, I painstakingly adjusted it to a central location, but doing so is hit-or-miss since there's no detent nor markings of any kind.Ignoring that weird feature, I like this product and will use it. I hope the maker listens to this feedback and either (a) gets rid of that one aspect, or (b) puts it at the BOTTOM of the stack so you will still be able to pan/tilt and maintain your orientation as you pivot. At the very least, give us some way of centering it that's not so nebulous.Left me wondering "what were they thinking"?About the only useful aspect of this control is that it allows you to rotate the top such that the handles are roughly in alignment. This can be handy if you're packing your tripod and don't want a handle sticking out at a right angle in your suitcase. But then of course, you'll have to fuss with bringing it back into the desired orientation once you want to use it.

TL;DR - As a whole this tripod head is built well, versatile, and offers a lot of utility; however, the placement of some critical components detracts from the overall experience.DISCLAIMER - This review sample was provided to me free of charge. The opinions expressed are solely my own with no input from either manufacturer or Amazon.INITIAL IMPRESSIONS & USAGEI have been a long time consumer of Neewer products. They sit nicely in that nice intersection of quality and value (leaning more towards value in most cases). But as of late their offerings have definitely been improving and this head certainly leans more towards quality. So there's a lot to like about this tripod head. The construction is mostly metal, it's well machined, feels very solid, and the moving elements are well damped. The knurling on the knobs is a nice touch and makes the whole unit feel more premium; however, the longer plastic handles -- while conveniently extendable -- do not feel particularly good and suffer from a degree of play that betrays the fact that a degree of cost cutting had to be implemented. In use though, it is near perfect, except for one glaring design oversight, which for me is an absolute deal breaker. The relatively small lever that controls the ball-head tension -- as seen in the last photo -- is a nightmare to adjust because of it's close proximity to the lower handle. If only the placement were on the opposite side or if instead of a lever it had just been a small knurled knob, this issue could have been avoided, but alas. The lever itself can be pulled out to adjust the positioning of the grip, but I still found it tiresome to access. With all that said, I still think it's a very solid product, and while my OCD prevents me from using this as a daily driver, I'd still encourage someone looking for a 3-way head to give this a try at the very least. It has a lot of merits including the price and if you can live with the minor quibble I previously stated, then you'll be left with a very well built, reliable piece of kit.

I must admit that the main reason that I bought this tripod head was due to the unique design of the leveling base in the center of the head. I could visualize how this concept would help me to level my camera and tripod accurately when on uneven ground. The more that I use it, the more that I appreciate the design and how well it works, but the head isn’t without its quirks. For example, the panning head knob, if locked down tight, when the tilt knob directly above it is locked, will not loosen until the tilt head is unlocked. Once the tilt head is unlocked, the panning head can be loosened and you can pan. The key, I think, is not to panic and try to force the panning knob to turn.Overall, I have really appreciated the build quality and thinking that went into this tool, and enjoy using it, despite the quirks.

This 3 way tripod head allows various angle adjustments. The downside is that it's fairly tall and this is not a true fluid head. The short arms are nice but it's really meant for re-positioning the angle and not really smooth tilt/panning action as that's a bit difficult to achieve with this tripod head.As a tripod head the leveling base is well executed and it can help solve some uneven floors or tripod leg length differences. It's intuitive to use.Overall this is a great value, especially for lighter camera setups.

My heaviest combination is 8lbs and it handles that weight very well. At first appearance it looks quite small but looks are always deceiving! Has a very good feel to it, is well designed and easy to use. I find it to be quite impressive!

It has pan and tilt handles just like any other ball head. Nowhere on the box does it say it's a geard ball head. Aparently Neewer's idea of a geard ball head and mine are two completely different things. It's going back.

I've had good results from NEEWER gear in the past, and I'm generally happy to rely on it based on past experience. This P/T head is no exception I was pleased to find, with a bit of practice I found it was straightforward to get a nice smooth movement with it, slow and steady. It worked great for my DSLR, and feels absolutely well-made.
