This 5mm waterproof Explorer boot allows you to enter/exit cold water while keeping your feet warm, comfortable, and dry. Cut extra roomy to allow enough space for thick winter socks layered underneath, the Explorer boot is 100 percent watertight to the knee. The aggressive sole resists abrasions, provides traction, and creates a snug, comfortable fit. Constructed of 5mm neoprene with a warm Titanium terry lining and glued, bindstitched, sealed, and taped seams for waterproofness. Anyone working in or around cold water, including fishermen, hunters, kayakers, aquarium workers, paddle boarders, and other cold-water enthusiasts would benefit from these waterproof boots.

The 5mm nylon neoprene with warm titanium terry lining provides plenty of insulation but the boot is generously cut to accommodate thick socks for extra warmth. Sealed and taped seams keep water from penetrating the boot and dual straps keep them secured to your foot and leg. The durable sole provides traction and stability on almost any surface.

I've used these boots for kayak fishing during winter and spring and they have fully met all my expectations. First, in cold water I can launch and recover my kayak without my feet getting wet and cold. Second, the boots are warm and I've fished in cold weather with a single pair of wool socks under the boots and my feet have stayed warm (down to air temps in the upper 20s). Additionally, they have good traction on the boat ramp and have been comfortable to wear for hours on the water.

ok, I expected that they would be waterproof. But they leak at the seam. Disappointed the last pair I owned (not this name brand-MEC) didn't leak.

If you'd like some giant water balloons for your feet and ankles than these are for you. Watch them double in size as they swallow all the nearby water and create a nice sinking feeling.

I bought these to keep my feet dry when beach- launching my kayak in cold water. Out of the box, they fit really nice on my bare feet. I wear size 10 1/2D or 11D shoes and boots. Bought these in size 12 after reading some of these reviews. They are exactly 16"tall. I have narrow calves, 13 1/4", and the boot tops are nearly skin tight at 15 1/4" inside circumference, leaving maybe 1/4" gap around the circumference of my leg. Wider calves may have a fitment issue here as the top band is not very stretchy at all. There is enough room for socks without jamming my toes in the front. With or without socks they are a good fit.I put them on barefoot and stepped into 4" of water to check waterproofness. Immediately, maybe three seconds pass, both feet felt the wetness of water near ankles and bridge of feet. I stepped out after a few more seconds to visually determine the leak sources. They're the four vertical stitched seams and the stitching that fastens the pull tabs on the foot bridge that allow water to pass. So, all of the stitching. The seams are taped on the inside, but the tape is less than successful due to the inner material being a short- napped fleece; the tape cannot really seal the fleece. For the few seconds it takes for me to stand in the water to board the kayak, the total amount of water intruding into the boots will be tolerable, so I'm keeping them. I ran some seam sealer goop on the outsides of the seams; whether it works or not, these will now be my winter kayaking boots. With these boots,if you are intending to be standing in water for any length of time, expect the water to find its way in; plan for the seam sealer treatment if seepage will be an issue. Btw, the seam sealer does not stand out after it is cured. Pretty much soaks in as it dries and is not obvious.

Took about 2 minutes to get wet feet in minimal amount of water splashing while paddle boarding , disappointed!

Used this for an Arctic kayaking trip in the southern Brooks range in Alaska for all of August. Put in about 300 miles of paddling and over 10 miles of hiking in these boots. Water was cold enough (perhaps 50°F) where your feet would hurt if exposed to the water too long. These boots, with thin merino wool socks, kept my feet and calves comfortable throughout the entire trip which entailed lots of lining and a week of cold, windy, and drizzly weather. Even when the boots were full of water (some lining required going in to water over your knees), the neoprene construction kept my feet comfortably warm and the snug fit minimized the amount of water the boots carried. Fishing while standing in water over my knees, these boots kept my feet comfortable. I also used these boots for short hikes over cobble and through thick taiga, holding up over perhaps 10 miles of hiking. Although I did put a small ding in the neoprene due to snagging a tree branch while hiking, the boots never leaked. I patched the ding with weather sealing adhesive (used for kayak hull patching) a couple days later. I would recommend wearing light or medium weight merino wool socks as it makes it much easier to get the boots on & off, wet or dry. As for those who complain about feeling the seams in the heel area, once you get out paddling and dealing with the elements, you won't notice these issues at all. The soles are thin and flexible where walking over cobble and rocks is uncomfortable. Perhaps placing a 1/32 inch polyethylene (UHMWPE would be best) insert as a sole insert would help. My feet are moderately tough, but the thin soles were a bit too thin for the environment I was in. The upper straps won't keep water out, but they do serve to keep water from cycling. The upper straps could have been a softer material as they are hard to cinch. If you have large calves, these boots will be tight. Another plus with these boots is they will probably stay on your feet should you need to make a wet exit in fast water. One of our members lost their standard rubber boots (sucked right off their feet!) when they got caught in a tree in a sweeper. The size 9 boot fit my 8 1/2 sized feet perfectly with thin wool socks. Of all the footwear in our group, I had the happiest feet due to these boots.

These are like Britsh 'Wellingtons' - waterproof boots, but I think they look a little cooler and work much better to keep water out. I use then for 'wave running' on the lake and they are perfect. They keep out airborn water as well - something other boots don't.They are inexpensive, fit well, and do the job.If you work out these will be tight around the calf but if you have ever worn 'Wellington's ' you will know that tight around the calf is a good thing.
