Our internet would not reach our children's rooms, so we bought and installed this. They can now stream on their TVs and phone without buffering most of the time.

I needed a wi fi extender for my new ring wi fi outdoor cam. I bought this extender to bridge the gap between the router/modem to the outdoor cam. Problem was with the instructions and the issues getting the unit connected to my wi fi system. I have a new (2024) Arris Modem/Router Combo that does not have a WPS button. The secondary instructions in lieu of having a WPS button did not work at all using the instructed 'set up wizard'. Two hours later of watching on line tutorials and reading the instructions over and over, I came to the conclusion I needed outside help. I ended up having to access the router via the Arris software as it does not have a physical WPS button. This is an additional layer of security, however made it more cumbersome to pair the two devices. I was really expecting a more "plug and play". More the issue of the Arris, not the extender but the instructions could have been made clearer. Regarding the performance of the extender: The ring camera works well, which was the original intent, but the range/strength is not as robust as I was expecting. All in all, working OK now.

The biggest lie this company sells is that a customer can set up their range extender in five minutes. This is my second extender from Netgear, and honestly, I don’t know why I purchased a second one. My first extender, purchased in 2017, was a total pain to set up. I couldn’t get the website to work 98% of the time. The problem is, in order to access the set up website, you have to be connected to the extender’s Wi-Fi, but that’s almost impossible to get connected to in the first place. When my 2017 extender stopped working, I figured it was just old and needed replacing. I tried updating the firmware, but wasn’t able to do so because the extender wouldn’t even connect to the wifi to get the update.Well, surprise, surprise! The “new and improved” model uses the same, outdated, confusing, annoying website. I finally got the extender to work after about 2 hours. Come to find out, though, that only the 5G wifi worked, but not the 2G, even though the website says both were connected and working properly. That essentially made this extender useless since I was using it with my smart plugs and lights, which only work on a 2G network.I feel like I’ve tried everything and at this point, I’m just really annoyed. The only way I was able to set up the extender was not through the website, but through the default extender IP address, which I luckily found buried within Netgear’s “help” articles. Now, I can’t even get that to work. All in all, I’m super frustrated and will not be purchasing from this company again. It looks like it’s time to find another brand!

I've tried a few different extenders in an attempt to extend the WiFi signal out to our detached garage (about 60 feet away from the house) and this one finally did the trick. Initially paired it via WPS with our TP-Link extender (in AP mode that is connected to the main network switch via Cat6) located in the room closest to the garage and found that I could log into the Netgear via web browser to change more settings like customizing the SSIDs and giving it a static IP for easier management later. I then relocated it to the garage and found that it works very well even during the -15F temps we got in last months winter storm. At this distance we're getting around 130 mbps at best but that is more than fast enough to support some WiFi security cameras inside and outside of the garage. The 2.4 GHz range is surprisingly big, allowing me to roam much of my backyard (about 1/4 acre) streaming video until my phone lost connection to the extender making the WiFi usable out by the fire pit as well. The web browser management page also has some options that aren't even mentioned in this Amazon listing like "Fast Lane" which allows you to increase throughput (depending on your conditions) by doing things like configuring the extender so that the 5GHz band is dedicated to client devices and the 2.4GHz band to the link back to your router or vice-versa. I could also see this device being useful if your router is getting bogged down with too many client devices (like smart bulbs), connect those devices to this extender which in turn the router will see as a single device reducing the number of clients that it has to manage.

it took a couple tries because I didn't have the extender close enough to the router when I tried to enable the WPS. I have a NetGear R7000P that uses the NightHawk app, However this NetGear extender is not compatible or supported by the app. So if you have a router that uses the NightHawk App I highly recommend you connect Via WPS or it will simply confuse you to use the NetGear installation assistant.Attempting with the connection assistant: It took forever to load the web page and when it finally did even though my device was connected to the Extender it said my device was not connected to the extender, even though I double checked multiple times and my device was in fact connected to the extender and not my actual Wi-Fi network.Using the WPS connection method it will automatically have the same password you set and use with your normal Wi-Fi login and it will add your Wi-Fi name with: _2GEXT and _5GEXT. If you want to set up a guest network you would need to log into your Wi-Fi router not the extender to set up the guest network. This has been the easiest method and I highly recommend it as it took less than 5 minutes once I got the extender in the correct range of my router for the initial connection.I live in a brick apartment building and my extender is now 2 rooms away from my router and still holding a very strong connection.Hope this helps anyone having troubles or wondering how well it might work for them!
