NICHE PISTON

An ATV piston is a component of engines, pumps, and gas compressors. It is located in a cylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft through a piston rod and or connecting rod

Piston Anatomy

A piston is a cylindrical engine component that slides back and forth in the cylinder bore by forces produced during the combustion process. The piston acts as a movable end of the combustion chamber. The stationary end of the combustion chamber is the cylinder head.

Piston Components

ATV Piston components include the piston head, piston pin bore, piston pin, skirt, ring grooves, ring lands, and piston rings. The piston head is the top surface of the piston which is subjected to tremendous forces and heat during normal engine operation

NICHE GASKET

A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.

Some Types of Gaskets:

Head gaskets create a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. This seal establishes a proper compression and prevents fluid leaks into the cylinders

Base gaskets create a seal between the top-end of your engine and the engine cases. Stop pesky engine oil leaks before they cause permanent damage to your engine.

The valve cover is sealed to the upper section of the engine cylinder head by a valve cover gasket. As it passes around the camshafts, rockers, and valves, the gasket stops engine oil from seeping out.

piston rings had very sharp edges causing a deep scratch into a brand new cylinder. also a niche product.once the ring ends were cleaned up they were good to go. hoping niche sees this and offers me a new cylinder.it seems to work either way and i wont complain about functionality.

Not happy with the quality. Gaskets required filing to fit properly, machining on piston was rough and measured .5mm smaller than the original which was std bore.

The good: I set up my usual grinder the n the vice and foot pedal setup to gap these rings for the cylinder which was in decent shape. To my surprise, the rings were absolutely within the tightest tolerance of the Honda spec, every one was perfect. Quality control was insane. Gaskets were great too.The bad: After assembly with the new piston and wrist pin there was a terrible top end tapping. Everything was gone through and tested but at the end of the day, there was too much play in the wrist pin or piston. Putting the stock back in with the new rings fixed the issue right up.Honestly, compared to the Honda price and availability, this kit is still worth a hundred bucks just for the decent rings and gaskets.
