Honda CRV Direct Fit Three-way Catalytic Converter

How Do Three-way Catalytic Converters Work?

A three-way catalytic converter has three simultaneous tasks:

  1. Reduction of nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and oxygen: 2NOx → xO2 + N2
  2. Oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide: 2CO + O2 → 2CO2
  3. Oxidation of unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) to carbon dioxide and water: CxH2x+2 + [(3x+1)/2]O2 → xCO2 + (x+1)H2O.

Nilight's Direct Fit Converters are engineered to meet your vehicle’s specific emissions requirements and most Come With the Replacement Gaskets at NO Additional Cost!

Catalytic Converters are designed to last the life of your vehicle. It is important to fix the source of the problem before replacing your OEM converter. There are three major reasons a converter fails

1

CATALYST POISONING

  • Leaky Cylinder Head Gasket
  • Silicone-Based Sealant
  • Improper Fuel (E85, Diesel)
  • Worn Piston Ring / Valve Seal

1

STRUCTURAL DAMAGE

Often caused by road debris, corrosion or other conditions such as:

  • Air Gap Pipe Failure
  • Flex Pipe Failure
  • Stripped O2 Sensor Threads
  • Broken Hangers

The quality of the Cat material is lower, but the unit is a direct fit if you can keep your flange bolts from rusting/snapping. Had cut the flanges off and utilize some exhaust clamps with pipe extensions, but codes after install.

I bought this catalytic inverter because it was cheap. Honda quoted me $1600 to replace the one on my 2004 crv, which I didn't want to spend on a car this old. Installed easily and worked great for 2 months. Over the course of the third month my car developed a misfire and a sulfur (rotting egg) smell. Usually signs of a failing Cat, and my shop confirmed it was. Save your money and buy the more expensive one.

Haven’t had it on the car for long but no more weird rattles and warning lights on the dash. Great option especially for an older vehicle. The donut gasket didn’t seem to fit quite right but we were able to reuse the old one.

So this is a direct bolt on unfortunately for me someone stole the catalytic converter off of a family member 05 CRV. The thieves are actually nice enough to disconnect the O2 sensors but they did not leave them so I had to purchase new two sensors as well as catalytic converter. Exhaust shop wanted nearly $1,200 to do it and they could put it aftermarket one in for about $300 this was a direct bolt in and saved me money as I could do it myself.Pro Tip: lubricate the bolts with plenty of anti-seize and let it sit before trying to remove them. This one did not come with gaskets I'm not sure if it should have as my box was Not taped on arrival.
