I must admit I am a bit surprised to find myself giving this dog life jacket five stars, for it looks like my old whitewater life jacket from the 1980s, but I think this is a more comfortable and more functional jacket than those more form-fitting ones I have. The fit of it allows for most of the flotation material to be near the water's surface. This results in not only more room for the dog's front legs to move, but it also keeps much of the bulk of the flotation material from creating as much drag; the dogs swim unimpeded by the vest! My guys swim as fast with the jackets on as they do without them.I'd ordered this one for a 4 month old puppy who wasn't yet comfortable in the water. After just a few trial with the vest, she decided she didn't need it anymore, which is just as I had hoped. It fits her better than other vests I've used on other dogs in the past. I don't really like having the straps hanging as they do, but that happens with every vest I've seen.I don't know exactly how much buoyancy the vest (medium size) has, but it supports a 2.5 kg (approx. 5.5 pounds) with buoyancy to spare. Now that the puppy no longer needs it in the pool, I will use it on our small fishing boat for her without hesitation. I'd ordered it in red for increased visibility; if she goes over the side, I'll be able to see her more easily than, say, a green one.When it comes to boating safety, I don't cut corners. I am a member of a government-supported volunteer organization (not permitted to use the name in something like this review) with recreational boater safety as our primary mission, and have been on the water for well over 60 years, and I have no problem trashing products that claim to promote safety but do not. This doggie life jacket is not such a product and if it wasn't as good as I am attempting to convey then my dogs would not be wearing them. Yes, I did get another one for my other dog. That dog is a very highly trained guide dog, my wife's, and there is no way on Earth I would put him in a life jacket if I'd thought it was compromised in any way. The fact that this canine PFD is less than half the price of those others I've had is just a very nice bonus.I did receive this product for evaluation without cost, but I am certainly not going to compromise my dogs safety for the sake of a free product. I am impressed with this life jacket, which is something I had not expected.

I ordered the size XL dog life vest in the red color and it arrived in excellent condition. My only complaint is that I absolutely hate the color. Being my Service Animal, I'm nitpicky about all of my dog's gear matching. This product is a truly awful shade of dark maroon red with magenta-pinkish details. It's also not really a great color for being visible in the water - especially on my already mostly black dog.Beyond that, the construction of the dog life vest is excellent. The XL is true to its size chart and indeed fits my barrel-chested, thick-necked dog. The vest is highly adjustable in multiple intelligent ways. It is worn like a traditional harness - 2 straps (and a band) go around the animal and buckle underneath with a piece across the chest/neck of the dog. Both straps are highly adjustable, as is thd front piece, and the end of the fabric portions of the straps have a specific detail to keep them in place.My dog is very compliant and served as an easy model, but I do think he found the life vest comfortable (it's not the first he's worn). While I cannot test the product's buoyancy yet due to cold weather, my initial impression is that is a very well made dog product. It feels higher quality than similar priced life vests I've tried in the past. Aside from it hideous and not very functional color, this item exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this product to others, but probably only in the brightest color options. Very well done. : )PSA: It's a common myth and misconception that all dogs can naturally swim. Some may, but many cannot. Plenty of responsible dog owners have lost beloved pups due to inability to swim, exhaustion, and overall just drowning. I view a dog life jacket as a necessity for dogs that are going to be in water taller than they are when standing. It's just not worth the risk.

I am so impressed with the quality, and features of this doggie life jacket!First, theres a pad in the front that helps keep your pup's head above the water, along with both sides of thick floatation foam to keep the rest of the body elevated while swimming.There are so many adjustments to customize the fit! I ordered a Large for my 5yr old pit/border collie mix, she's about 50-55lbs, and the size chart was very accurate. I think she would fit a Medium, but I went with the large umin case she gains weight.The adjustment straps tuck newtly into the pockets, so the strap ends aren't floating around loose all over the place, and gives the life vest a nice clean look!The top of the vest has a net panel to keep your pup cool and ventilated, along with a sturdy carry handle for easy lifting out of the water, and there's a reflective strip for added visibility! Theres also a D-ring to attach to a tether line, in case your pup disagrees with your request to get out of the water.The belly area of the life jacket fastens by multiple Velcro strips AND adjustable buckles, to ensure it won't fall off or loosen. The cut of the jacket also doesn't restrict movement or range of motion, which will keep my pup from trying to wiggle her way out of it.After I take my pup to the lake for a swim I'll update this review if I have any issues to report. This life jacket is made out of very sturdy materials with great stitching, I think one is going to last multiple summers!I also want to note that the color is actually a maroon or dark red, versus bright red.. which is still very helpful so boats can see her in the water since she has dark fur.
