I am always getting new tools and have quite the collection. Wanted to have a second cheaper voltage detector to use when I am using my tools on the road. It feels well built and solid, should survive a drop intact. It came with batteries, which is nice, but the batteries are per-installed in the unit and could leak waiting in the warehouse before orders.I was able to detect electricity on several power cords around the house and even in the power outlet itself. It also was able to detect a live USB cable for a phone charger, so it has a decent level of low voltage detection. It works correctly so far, but we will see how it holds up over time. The lack of protection of the included batteries in the unit is just bad packaging design.

It does what it's supposed to do: tell you if a wire is hot. It works. At least in my testing with regular residential 120V.The most important feature is that it has an indicator light to tell you it's turned on. That's important because you need to know if the battery is dead - otherwise it won't alert to a hot wire and you end up getting zapped. It beeps and flashes with increasing frequency depending on the strength of the signal. It's sensitive enough that in an appliance cord or romex, you can tell which wire is hot and which is neutral. I could see that being handy. The probe tip is sized to fit into a standard outlet hole. Remember to check both prongs because in a properly wired outlet only one will be hot.The flashlight is very weak, but if you imagine the use case - the breakers are off, lights are out, and it's pitch black - it would still be useful.I wouldn't consider this tool very rugged. I would worry about a drop on the plastic battery cap or the probe tip. I would say it is priced accordingly.Batteries were included. As a man, I did not read the instructions so whatever other features this unit has, I don't know about and didn't test. I like this tool, I will use it for household electrical work, and at this price ($9.99 at the time of writing) you can't go wrong.

Without even touching a wire and contact this was giving me low readings. I could not get it to switch out of the sensitivity range it was in. And I was getting readings before it go close to wires or anything. This was not useful.

Excellent tester for quick hot/cold circuit indication. Tester will hold in place when pushed inside of an electrical outlet and beeper is loud enough to hear so one person can use for detecting/identifying unknown/unlabeled circuit breakers without running back and forth from breaker to outlet.I also like the size of the tester. Feels comfortable in the hand and easy to grasp and hold onto when you’re in tight spaces.Has a high/low sensitivity setting for different applications and the added flashlight is a nice touch when working in low light settings. Even comes with a set of AAA batteries instead of those stupid round watch type batteries that other testers run on. Much easier to swap the batteries out also by unscrewing the end cap.

Great voltage tester that works great to test if outlet is alive. Doing electrical work you need to keep safe so always wear insulated gloves and use insulated tools. AND make sure the electric outlet is NOT LIVE with a tester unit like this. Comes with a battery all ready to use and is easy to carry in shirt pocket. Would recommend.

Mine seems to work perfectly - easily alerting to 120v power and even to powered usb cables. It is made of plastic, but not the brittle kind - this feels quite sturdy. It's nice that they included the required AAA battery, and adding the flashlight make it quite handy in those dark corners electrical components generally are found in. I did need to read the directions: the blue power button handles both turning it on and switching sensitivity modes. I was pushing the parts labeled "power" and "s" , and nothing happened. lol. So it would be a good idea to save the directions, which is unfortunate because mine was shipped in a bag and the box was crushed. Oh well. It's still a great tester.

A nice Non-Contact Voltage (NCV)tester. This is a simple voltage tester and there is not much that can be said about it. It works as advertised and is well built. It graphically provides 3 levels of field intensity by way of LED display and the frequency of the audible signal. There is a high sensitivity setting that increases the range of detection and is indicated by a blue LED indicator. It easily found 110V wiring buried behind a lath and plaster wall from 6 inches away using the sensitive setting.Unit requires 2 AAA cells for operation. Easily replaceable.A product that should be in every toolbox.
