Don't waste your money. It smashes over half the mushrooms I sliced.

Appears to be made well, but only time will tell

This is the best egg slicer I've had. All metal, cuts well, cleans easily and it a pleasure to use.

I use this almost everyday and it works PERFECTLY. Also, unlike a lot of the other slicers, you can easily change the wire. Slices eggs vertically and horizontally. Great for egg salads.👍👍 ENJOY 👍👍

Great on most eggs and smaller fresh mushrooms. Jumbo eggs need finessing to get them through... Bigger and mushier mushrooms jam it up. Cleans easily. With the indentation was deeper for jumbo eggs and larger mushrooms.

This does cut an egg cleanly and sharply. However, the smooth, slick surface of it makes the egg tend to slip forward and fall out as you press the cutting strings down onto it. One has to hold the egg in place until the strings have sliced down into it a bit and have enough grip to hold it in place. The second thing I learned was that if you wash it in the dish washer, the metal becomes discolored, has a dull color, blackened areas and feels rough to the touch. I don't know if this would also have happened if I had hand-washed it. If you get one, you might want to hand-wash it only, so as to avoid the discoloration.

I like to make egg salad, thought this would be the answer to chopping the eggs. It makes nice slices, but I have to rotate the egg several time to dice it to make egg salad. I can do it just a quick with a sharp knife.

Compact, sleek, incredibly easy to use. Fits nicely into a compartment in my silverware drawer. Turns out wonderfully uniform slices in seconds, and is quite sturdy. Price is low and this is definitely NOT a case of "you get what you pay for" - I had originally bought a slightly more expensive unit (another brand) that broke immediately after trying to slice one ordinary mushroom. This is really a bargain and I would gladly have paid more for this. The added bonus is that I didn't have to!**Update, 2/28/2013: I'm updating the review I posted in September of 2000. Yep, still have this item after almost 13 years, and still give it 5 stars! I've read other reviews and don't have any of those problems - I use it all the time for eggs and also for mushrooms. If you rinse the mushrooms instead of wiping them, they can be a little rubbery and the slicer squashes them a little when slicing, and you have to press harder. Easily avoided using by NOT letting the mushrooms get soggy: wipe with a cloth to clean them, or if you must rinse, do it quickly and dry the mushrooms off immediately and let them air dry a little. But if the mushrooms are going in a sauce, then the fact that they got flattened a little doesn't matter! I use it to make egg salad, after the first slice, lift the slicer, hold the egg together and turn it 180 degrees while still sitting on the slicer, then bring the top down again. It chops the egg. I've read the negative reviews and just haven't had those experiences. One thing, though, is that I don't put it in the dishwasher. I rinse it immediately, brush any remaining particles off under running water, using a brush I have for cleaning Circulon pots. Any brush for dishes will do. So it is the same shiny silver color it was back in 2000. I am getting ready to buy this slicer again as a gift for someone and also another to have one in my vacation apt.Once again: Looks great, slices mushrooms and eggs quickly, easily, evenly. Compact, fits easily in a small amount of space. Great price, a real bargain especially now after 13 years.
