Not easy to use. A single curve is much better because with the S design forces me to raise the handle of the gouge much higher than I am comfortable with to avoid the other half of the S as I go deeper into the bowl.I will be replacing it with a single curve.

The set screw that is required to stabilize this rest doesn't hold, even when torqued down real tight. I found the top of the rest constantly tried to work its way into the bowl I was turning. I like the style, so I'm keeping the rest and will probably order another post, then secure the rest to the post permanently.

I was a little skeptical about the benefit I'd get from using this, but after the first time I'm convinced. This tool rest reduces vibration to almost nothing as I'm able to support the cutting edge of my tools within a half inch or so of the bowl. With a straight tool rest, there would be places where the support was more like two inches away. I would highly recommend this product.

I have used this for 4 months now and it does well for finish turning of bowls. Allows me to follow the curve of the rest to keep my bowls a level of consistency.

I've had this rest for almost 2 years now, but found myself avoiding it in preference to my previous veritas modular rest. So today I made a point of using it for a while, to try and articulate why I don't much like it. The first thing I found is that the "long" curved side of the rest is too long, and too curved. In general, the rest needs to support your cuts from the rim/edge to the center of the bowl, and for most bowls this will not exceed 90 degrees of arc. This rest goes far beyond that, so the long end curls past the center of the bowl, and back toward you, which is somewhat disconcerting. I guess this might be useful if you're making a hollow vessel where the opening at the top of the piece is smaller than the largest diameter inside, and you plan to insert the rest through the opening for hollowing, which presumably might place the end of the rest somewhere near the center of the piece.I went ahead and removed to last 2 inches of the long side with my angle grinder, so it now "fits" the inside of my average bowl much better. The second objection I have to this rest is that the junction with the post forms a "lump" in the continuity of the rest. Given that, with the exception of scraping cuts, almost all gouge cuts will be done with the handle held lower than the rest, its impossible to make a smooth sweeping cut without running afoul of this lump. So its OK for scraping, but not for gouging. There's no question that this is a good quality item, and its possible that my incorrect expectations are the cause of my disappointment, however this rest hasn't given me the functionality I was hoping to acquire.

It’s the only system I could get to be used on my 5/8 banjo. Took rest seems decent but having a threaded post with such a long spanning rest is flawed. You can’t tighten the nut enough to hold it. Even when you do with vibrations it only remains tight for a few minutes

sturdy enough for sure, not much vibration out near the end of the rest. the finish coating breaks down or something and had to polish with some 600 grit to get a smooth surface so the tool wouldn't hang up. For the almost new turner such as myself it's good, not ready to spend the big bucks just yet. happy turning! amending my review after a year, the long leg of this rest vibrates to much when you get past the halfway point so I cut it off at that point because it got in the way when trying to get to the usable part. the surface is getting worse and the tool doesn't glide like it should despite polishing, Just get a decent [expensive] rest and be done with it

I ordered the tool rest post, 6" tool rest and the bowl rest all together. am very happy with the quality of the products and the cost was reasonable. I am using it on my 20" lathe with no problems.
