I have a few of these OBD2 scanners.I can categorize them into two groups.The first group, is the simple, code readers. These are generally all you need for a quick scan when you get a check engine light. Some readers are easy to use, and understand, and some just don't make any sense.The other type are mush more expensive, but they can do more things than just read codes.This one, is fairly easy to use. I picked this one because it was a good price, and it came with a plastic case, plus the whole thing, is very small.

I needed a backup to an old Harbor Freight scanner I was using as it started to glitch out on me at times and this was cheap enough to give it a shot. Performs just like the one I own and easy to use as well. It isn’t a snap on, but definitely helps pulling codes and diagnostics. Affordable.

This code reader has come in handy a few times my son drives an older car and it tends to have a number of issues. It reads the codes accurately. It’s nothing super fancy just a basic code reader which is all we needed. It comes in a nice storage case, and is easy to use. It also has a very affordable price tag which makes this even better as sometimes just to get a diagnostic on your vehicle can cost four times what the price of this whole unit is

This tool can save you a lot of money, diagnose your own car by pulling the codes yourself with this reader.Plugs into the ODB port on new cars and reads the codes your car generates as reports so the mechanic can see what the problem is, very useful for anyone with a new car.

Decided on giving this a good tryout when found available.The result had been a good choice.Arrived in good time - packaged well in a nice securely latched and well padded compact hard case.The device itself has a good compact footprint of 6" by 3 3/8" with a 1 3/8" depth and a viewable screen of 2 1/4" by 1 3/4" - all making for a nic ely designed ez to hold n carry compact unit.Thick heavy duty Integral cord of 32" in length plus the 2 3/4" deep pin connector plug which was found to b of a good size to give a nice snug fit with no issues upon hookup.There's also a seperate 32" long usb 'c' to 'a' type usb cable to power the unit for 'making printouts' of prior reads in memory by hooking the device up to a pc (either home/ shop computer).The device itself is powered up by the vehicles battrey as soon as it's hooked up to the vehicles DLC (data link connector) located beneath the interior dashboard.The device has many included up-graded features being able to scan and record prior and live error codes on a vast amount of various cars/trucks back to 1996 (when OBD2 had first been implemented).The included booklet is highly detailed in the workings and operation of the device.There's also a way to recieve updated data thru the makers website to keep up with newer info as it becomes available (a plus). Haven't given that a try as of yet ... may add to the scribbles here in due time whenever that happens to take place.I've had this for a couple months in possession - tried it out a over a half dozen various vehicles of different makes n models - the device easily found info on all of em as soon as it was connected.It finds old info error codes as long as the info hadn't been cleared from the vehicles ecm (computer) as well as current codes and other status available from the vehicles ecm which the device is able to record and keep in memory by choice of the user along with being able to print out those results (as mentioned before). The device is also programmed with the 'emissions' feature - along with several other tests some others 'near this ones price point' simply don't. The screen is easily viewable - the keypad works effortlessly - no issues found with either of em.In summary : found this device to b well designed - ez to operate - error-free.Of good economical value when compared to many others available with similar features.No this not a high-end complete scanner which would easily triple its cost - but for what it can and will do - it performs em very well and at a very economical price point making for a great value found.

Review for OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic Tool, Professional Code Reader for Cars and Trucks,OBD2 Scanner Auto Check Engine Light Scan Tool, Car Engine Fault Code Reader.These scanners are very basic. They are not the full (and very expensive) scanners that mechanic shops use to diagnose problems.This scanner tells you the general code, versus a very specific code.But, these scanners can help you determine what is wrong with your car, in the most general sense. For example, it might tell you that an oxygen sensor is bad, but it won't tell you which one.

I got this diagnostic scanner for my husband to use to try to figure out what is wrong with our car. The area where the gear shift is keeps getting hot and no one seems to know what the problem is. We had tried several different mechanics and they didn’t know. So me and my husband tried to use it. We read the instructions and connected it to our car but it kept saying there was an error.So it finally stopped giving an error code and gave us a reading which we couldn’t figure out what it meant. So this is not an easy device to use. It has a lot of good functions if we could figure out how to use it. It even has the ability to print out but right now we don’t know how to use it.So we will continue to try it and see if we can figure out how to use it and then I will come back and update my review.
