The plastic gear on the old starter, the teeth were worn off, i was going to replace just the gear, but i found excessive play in the starter motor shaft. this is what caused the gear to fail. I got this mower very used...the starter always seemed noisy, but after installing the new starter, no noise, and fires right up !

I received this starter yesterday. It is exactly as advertised, looks brand new, fits perfectly and works like a charm! No more slow spinning, loud noises, and drained battery on my riding mower. It started right up, with MUCH less noise and hassle. It's only been in a day, but it works great so far!

My 83 Craftsman II tractor was not starting. Replaced the solenoid, then the battery. Ended up being the starter. Used to crank for a good 20 seconds now it might crank for 3 seconds before it fires up. Very impressed with the cost and durability. Not to mention not having to drive all over town to locate the part.

As indicated in the title heading, the starter seems to be decent, and turns over my Deutz Allis with ease. However, the starter gear failed only after roughly 12-18 starts. This B&S IC 16Hp Vertical shaft engine makes it necessary to pull the flywheel to replace the starter, so it's no joy to replace starter or gear! My starter now has a new Briggs starter gear which slides better than the one originally on it. I've had about two dozen starts now with no sign of gear failure with the B&S gear.Update 04/2025: The B&S gears last longer than the aftermarket gear did, but still gets chewed up to where I'm replacing it 2-3 times a year. After monkeying with it so many times, I believe that the gear is not engaging the flywheel correctly indicating that the starter is not deploying the gear for proper engagement. So, I will be replacing the starter for one that hopefully does not eat gears.

I purchased this starter unit for my Briggs & Stratton - 16HP Twin II Opposed Cylinder Engine being the original starter finally died after nearly 30 years of use. I seen this replacement starter unit listed for only $26.96 & made the purchase being an OEM Briggs & Stratton replacement starter unit for my model engine was priced at over $100.00+. The quality is excellent of this replacement starter unit & I can not tell the difference between this one & the OEM version which is awesome. The replacement starter unit bolted right on perfectly & works excellent. It's hard to believe this company sells these starters so cheap, but I am certainly not complaining because I saved a bunch of money purchasing one from this company. I am extremely happy with my purchase & I highly recommend this product & Amazon seller to anyone.
