Overall, I would recommend this starter. The starter itself seems to be made of good quality materials. The Vindex is a good quality and the starter works as it should. The only thing is when installing the stud for the negative battery terminal make sure to run a tap through the threads or you will break it off that is exactly what happened to me.

This starter bolted right up to my 89 Evinrude 150. Works perfectly. Only thing you might need to do is run a thread chaser through the ground bolt threads as mine was thick with powder coating or whatever they use. (Which is a good thing). I recommend this starter, and seller got it to me the next day. Very happy.

Starter worked great for the first summer, second summer I started having issues starting and couldn't figure out what was happening. After going through a bunch of testing, I finally determined that my motor was failing the air gap spark test, I pulled the top two spark plugs out and it passed the air gap test. This told me that the motor wasn't spinning over fast enough when under full compression, I checked the solenoid, all my batteries, starter connections, and wires and couldn't find the cause for the slow turn over. Ended up buying an OEM starter, installed it, and my motor started better than it ever has.TL/DR: Not worth the money, spend the extra money for a OEM quality starter

I was concerned by some reviews stating problems with mounting holes lining up and proper pinion gear engagement with flywheel. I had neither problem. Tips that I would provide are: 1) Make sure your battery is disconnected as one of the mounting bolts is very close to the 12V to solenoid. 2) Use very light grease on the pinion gear and light oil on shaft - Sparingly. 3) Manually turn pinion gear to check teeth alignment into flywheel. Only test it out once you are sure it is good. I just did the repair and went onto the lake... Motor started flawlessly about a dozen times. Hope it lasts - see no reason it shouldn't. I'll update review if early failure happens.

My original starter was original OEM for my 1992 Johnson GT150 motor. I'm sure over the last 30 years it has become weaker before it failed, so perhaps what I am saying is trite, however, this new starter is Amazingly quick and strong to my perception. Took less than 10 minutes to swap out, perfect alignment of bolts, and first test of it equaled an instant start. No lag, no hesitation, no lack of strength at all. I would recommend to anyone with the GT150. Even if your starter hasn't failed but is acting sluggish, replace with this one.

Fit my Johnson 1989 GT 150 perfectly. I did need to find a new screw for the negative cable though. The original screw was standard of course but the hole in the new starter was tapped for a metric screw. I found a screw scavenging through my old screws that I never throw away. I think it was an M8. Install took about 30 min counting for 15 min looking for the right screw. Plenty of power to turn the motor over and start it.

Starter works good but I had to take the old starter and remove the bushing and place it in the new. Make sure to check the spacing between the starter and the fly wheel. I found the bushing was rubbing the fly wheel. Other than that works as it should.
