Yes it smells funny. After 16 years in the Corps I have never come across a tarp that didnt, even brand new ones. Its not an issue. The tarp i received appears to be a "never issued but stored for a long time" condition. Anywhere where the waterproofing wore away from being folded has been marked and repaired with the appropriate patch. No sun or rub damage anywhere. Even where it was patched i can tell that the waterproofing wasnt THAT damaged. Great for the price.

Bought mine from the Sport buyers listing. The thing is completely new and I'm super happy about that. Now obviously it's surplus and unfortunately it was folded liner down (like it's supposed to) and it's melted together over time.I'm hoping I can separate the 2 sides but it's unlikely. I do want to thank the Sport buyers seller for providing a true to listing product, this hopefully was overlooked by them as they did mention it was 9 out of 10 and the patterning is indeed that... just not the inside so more like a 6 out of 7.---------------------------------------------As an update 4 days later: I was able to separate the 2 sides (took a very long time) and it's completely usable now. I'm happy with it but I'm still leaving this at 4 out of 5 since it was still a considerable inconvenience in comparison to what was described. However on a positive note as described there were no holes or patches so again im happy about that.Thank you for taking your time to read this.

Mine arrived in excellent condition, no tears, repairs, or torn out grommets. I thought it had pinholes at first but they were just rub spots, still solid and waterproof. The seam sealing tape was old and peeling off but I expected to have to reseal the seams. The only bad thing was it smelled horrible, but that's just how it goes with milsurp some times. After airing it out it mostly went away.Mine came from 50caltrading for reference.

I ordered this MARPAT tarp thinking it would be close to what I was issued from CIF. The trap is in fair condition not very good condition. One large rip near the corner and small pin holes through out the tarp I’ve already counted more than 10 wholes ranging from dime to pen head size. I also had to wash dirt and mud off of the tarp right out of the box. You can see in my pictures the dirt and sand. If the condition said good I would understand this but being very good I wouldn’t expect such a large tear or dirt with sand.

So, unfortunately this was not a like new tarp. It was quite clear upon opening the package that the seller never inspected the tarp. If it had been inspected it would have been obvious that almost the entire tarp was delaminated. And if it had been inspected it would not has been so stuck together like it had been. Just go to orc and buy a new one.

Product is exactly as I hoped. Official USMC issued Tarpaulin, lightweight, ripstop, with double sided snaps and heavy duty grommets. I purchased mine used in good condition which meant that it was clean but had a small 1/4" hole, presumably from a smoker or being too near a fire. I repaired it with clear tape on both sides and is like new. Resists mildew and is fairly durable. Great for burrito wrapping your gear, as a ground cloth, or as a sun shade or any shelter really. I use a bivy sack, taco wrapped in this product for an extra layer.

McGuire advertised it as “used” but I certainly can’t see that it was used. That’s good for me. Glad I did not buy “new” as it would have been money spent needlessly. Another “good for me”. Life, death, taxes and McGuire. Four things to count on.Col C (ret)
