I bought this after having a spout of compression fitting ferrules that were a bear to remove. I thought that having a ferrule puller for 1/2" and 3/4" ferrules would definitely come in handy again in the future. I wasn't wrong, but this tool probably isn't going to be useful for two reasons.1) The thread on this tool is NPT. I can't imagine why there would ever be a compression fitting with a tapered thread. Maybe, in the past such a thing existed, but if it did, that practice must have been discontinued because that wouldn't make good sense.2) Even if this tool had a straight thread, there is no standard for the thread for compression fittings, so this may not fit the fitting you're working with. I know, it sounds crazy that there is no standard, but if you think about it, there is no reason for one since you're never trying to connect two plumbing fittings together by their compression fitting threads. I suspect that the industry has probably voluntarily standardized to use the same thread sizes (even though there really is no official standard). I say this because you can find caps that are used in place of compression nuts.If you are looking for a universal ferrule/olive puller, consider one of the ones that is made from sheet metal that goes behind the ferrule nut instead of threading into it. That's what you will find at plumbng supply stores instead.

Wow what a product! Homeowner, bad valve. New valve with old compression fitting. Leaked. Couldn't get the compression ring off. Pipe was too short out of the wall to cut. This thing worked perfectly. Surprising that Lowes doesn't sell them. Amazing!!! Recommend!!!

Amazingly simple concept. It does the work as advertised. Solid durable construction, excellent quality and design. It would have been impossible for me to remove some of the old fittings without this great tool.

The item seems like it is well built of solid materials. The problem is that the threads do NOT mesh with BrassCraft brand shut-off valves.Don't even try to use this tool if you're only able to get about a quarter turn on to the threads. You will probably pull the brass threads off of this tool and if they get stuck in the nut that was holding your shut-off valve on, then you won't be able to attach anything to it.Not the old shut-off valve, not a new shut-off valve, or even a different ferrule pulling tool.I'm rating this one star not for the quality of its build or even because I couldn't use it, I'm rating it one star in the hope that you will read this before you buy it.The tool is inexpensive enough that I will not be returning it. I'll keep it in my plumbing toolbox on the off chance that I ever come across a valve that it will work on. I can assure you that it will not work on any of the valves in my house though.

Removed 3 bushings from old valves that failed internally. I sanded down any sharp edges first, then slowly turned the handle and the bushings all came off without issue.Has adaptors for both 1/2 and 3/4. If it doesn't fit correctly, your probably using the wrong adapter or portion of the tool.Machining is quality and finishes are smooth.A tool that I will pass down.

I'm a licensed plumber here in the states, and this little tool is fantastic for pulling off the brass olives/ferrules for compression angle stops. I was previously using the Husky one that you can buy from home depot, but this tool is better because the leverage you get from the handles makes it easier to use, and because it's way shorter than the Husky one, you can use it in tighter spaces, like a washer box. On a side note, it is also suprisingly solid and durable for the price point too. Supper happy with this tool.

It seems to be built well, but it just does not work. Even putting a longer "T handle" in it does not help. Keep looking for something better and don't buy this.

Project: Removed two twenty-year-old shutoff values (hot & cold), which also required removing each shutoff values’ brass compression ring from copper water pipes that are 1/2” inside diameter (5/8” outside diameter). The brass compression ring is normally difficult, if not impossible, to slide off of the pipe without a specialized tool (you can check internet for various methods for removing brass compression rings). So did this tool work?Short Answer: Yes; the tool worked. It removed (slid) the brass compression ring off of each pipe.Long Answer: Overall, the tool appears to be well made (feels solid in the hand, well machined, handle & threads move freely without sticking or jamming).Tool description on Amazon says that the tool is “… suitable for brass pipes with diameters of NPT 1/2” & NPT 3/4” …” My project involved 1/2” inside diameter (5/8” outside diameter) copper pipe and it fit perfectly with the tool’s 1/2” fitting. I did not have the opportunity to test the tool’s 3/4” fitting. It took a minute to figure out how best to use the tool (an instructional video I found for a similar tool helped). This tool is not complicated, but if you’ve never used a particular tool before it always helps to see it in action to demystify how best to use it. Note to vendor, a short/simple instructional video with tips would be a nice addition. The handle that comes with the tool worked well to get things started (e.g., seating the tool’s threads into the threads of the shutoff valve’s compression nut and then working the compression ring off the copper pipe a bit), but once the compression ring reached a certain point on the pipe it became difficult to turn the tool’s handle (was hard to get the leverage / torque needed to keep things moving). Per another reviewer’s suggestion I removed the included handle and used a short screw driver as a handle (I used a Torx screwdriver, but a Phillips head would have worked just as well). It gave me the leverage I needed to keep turning the tool to move the compression ring along the pipe until it popped off. There was no damage or deformity in the pipes afterwards.Good tool and recommend. Would be great with a better handle and perhaps the option to seat it in a power drill.
