There are a bunch of various vac pumps out there in the 1/4 horsepower category, and most of them tend to be very similar in look and construction, i actually have one of them already for my uses so i am going to compare this one against the one i already own. The reason i have one currently is to evacuate a chamber to reduce bubble size in epoxy resin work i do, as well as to hook up to some vac pod clamps that i use for holding my woodworking projects while sanding. Up to this point i would switch my pump between the two stations, but it can be annoying at times, so its nice to finally have a dedicated pump for each. This pump pulls a good vac at the same speed as most other pumps in this class, but one thing it does differently than some of them is that the exhaust cap that evacuates air and vaporizes a bit of oil is in an always open shielded cap. My other pump just has an open outlet that you can put the plug on when not in use. I can't tell you the amount of times i forgot to pop off the cap and when starting up the pump, it shot it to the ceiling. Not having to worry about that is one nice thing on this pump since it's always attached directly to the fill cap.Other than that the fittings are nicely machined, and the footprint is compact and easy to store. Overall i think this vac pump is a good value for the money.

I have had all kinds of vacuum pumps over the years from air compressor models to battery operated ones. This is a very nice pump. It is a solid build with good rubber feet, it is fast and not too noisy. It isn't very heavy at just over ten pounds I'd say. It has a solid handle for moving it around. The cord has a thick rubber shielding on it and should last for many years of daily use. Works with 1/4" or 1/2" and has a big tank which is nice to have. It's a great pump and for the money it is worth getting.

Love OMT tools, great price, product and as always it functions very well. I believe they are the next OTC tools.
