With many rear disc brake calipers requiring a “wind back” operation to get the caliper retracted, this type of tool is essential. I went with the OTC kit because it essentially is the “special tool” in the FCA service information for my newer vehicle, at a less ridiculous cost. Being able to use a ratchet handle to turn the piston is an advantage over a lot of the knock-off kits, plus you can drive in either direction, if necessary. It turns out that the tool can also be used to push the front pistons back in a bit easier than my former C-clamp method, so that’s a bonus.

Great set. Borrowed from a coworker for a couple years before finally ordering my own. Couldn't imagine working without this set.

I use it on fords and it’s by far the best caliper press I have ever used. If you have used the other style with a pin to rotate the main press you know it hurts your hands. This one has an extension inside the main press and you connect it to your 3/8ths ratcheting wrench. Easy pezy. I have found it does not work that well on only 1 ford but it’s managable enough to get the job done.

It's a little awkward to use, but it does the job effectively. OTC makes some questionable quality tools. Many of them are made in Taiwan or China, this one probably no exception. However a lot of their stuff is still pretty good quality. Many of their specialty tools, like this one, are sold to tool companies like MAC and Matco, where they just rebrand it, and sell as their own.I like this set. It took me a few tries to figure out how to use it properly. What makes it awkward is, while you are rotating the T-handle to retract the caliper piston, you must also turn your ratchet attached to the chrome extension. You have to do this or the disc that contacts and engages with the caliper pistion will slip off. So what I do is turn the T-handle a bit, then turn the ratchet a bit, until it feels tight again. Then turn the T-handle some more. Repeat until the piston has been fully retracted. So yeah it's a bit tedious getting used to the tool, but once you do, it works great. The case is nice. The quality of the tool is fine. I really have no regrets buying this.

Changed my brake pads no problem. Worked like a charm. Thanks. Took me about 4 hours because I'm really slow. Had to rely on instructions from the internet but was a real simple job. But couldn't have done it without this thing I don't think. Saved me a lot of money. It has everything you need for changing brake pads except a big wrench and brake pads, I suppose.Oh yeah, you'll need a jack to jack up the car and some jack stands and a screw driver (big) according to the directions on the internet for a 2009 Toyota Corolla. If you do a search on google change brake pads for 2009 Toyota Corolla you'll see the video somewhere. I think it depends on the car how easy it is though. 2009 Corolla pretty much a piece of cake.Just changed brake pads on a 1998 Toyota Camry, also (Oct 5, 2013). Worked really well for that too. Took me just as long as for the Corolla, about. I really recommend this kit, though, as works really well. I got pads from Toyota, and looks like the disks are fine so just changed the pads. Just got the car state inspected and it passed (the old pads were pretty thin so good I put in new ones.

Purchased the item after considering all other possibilities (ie renting the tool); this is by far more advantageous, but I worried about the quality of the product.Turned out my worries were unfounded; the item arrived quick and in perfect order. I've used it almost immediately, and it's just a great tool that cut my working time by a large margin: good quality product, decent instructions, can be used on many vehicles.Highly recommended!
