I got this because I was zesting a lot of citrus, and this seemed like the tool to use. After all, the word zest is in the name. It works, and works well, but I soon learned that a microplane is much much better at zesting than a zester is. I basically never used this thing again after I switched to the microplane. That said, if you care about the shape of your zest being long and stringy, or you intend to use the channel knife to make one long spiral zest, this is the tool for the job.

Me entusiasmo!

As a bartender at a busy bar, I used to get annoyed when people would ask for a lemon twist in their martini instead of an olive. Of course I would always give the guest what they wanted without complaining, but it was still frustrating to slow down my service by about 30 seconds for just one drink. Plus I would use half a lemon, and if only one guest wanted a twist, that half lemon would be wasted. This is an invaluable tool for every bartender. It feels solid and comfortable in my hand. It makes very quick, easy twists that look great. And you can use the same lemon for many twists, depending on how tight you make your turns. Everyone who garnishes drinks should have one of these, especially at such a reasonable price.Keep in mind that this tool makes the long, thin type of twist. If you want the short, wide type, you should use a Y shaped potato peeler

This is a great bar tool. We saw a flair bartender on Celebrity Cruises use this to make orange, lime and lemon rind peels for martinis. He showed us how and it is so easy and makes our martinis at home cocktail hours and dinner parties look professional. We have not used this to make zest but the channel knife works so well with fresh citrus fruit skins. It is just the right balance of sharpness so I have never cut myself but I can make beautiful curly twists of oranges, lemons and limes effortlessly. The grip is great because even if you hands are wet the large rubber handle is stable. It cleans up easily too with some warm water and Dawn. We have been using ours for more than 6 months and the stainless steel head and black rubber grip look like new. We highly recommend. Kudos again to Oxo for another amazing tool.

Before purchasing this nifty little zester, I would always leave the zest out of any recipe that called for it. Whenever I tried to use a grater, the colored zest would stick inside the holes. If I kept on grating until the zest came out the other side, then I'd also get bits of bitter pith that would ruin the taste and the recipe. This tool makes perfect zest that includes only the flavorful colored part of the citrus peel. You run it lightly over the surface of the peel, and it makes ultra-thin strips of colored zest. The tool is easy to control, and a snap to use. I use mine to make non-bitter-tasting orange, lemon, and lime zests for homemade sorbets, ices, and ice creams.

I don't know if other zesters would be better, as I have not used any prior to purchasing this one.If this is going to be your first zester, I recommend this one. This is my first and I appreciate the price and quality. It makes the job very easy and the size of the zest depends on how big your strokes are. You can make them pretty small too.Other reviews make a good point emphasizing that it does miss some spots. I feel like it's a very minor thing though and many zester will miss pieces too, but don't get this product if you are aiming to get 100% of the zest. It's not a big deal for me personally though as I feel like it misses less than 10% so I can always get another fruit out.MAIN POINTS: Easy to use, easy to clean, great zest of varied size, but does miss some zest. Overall, a great product.

This must be the worst product I've ever purchased that sports the OXO label. And I've got a lot of the stuff, and have been generally satisfied with it. I needed a channel knife, wanted one where you could draw it sideways like a paring knife (instead of pulling it long-ways towards you--look at other channel knives, you'll know what I mean). This gadget cuts the raggediest, least-attractive lemon twists ever, and it's hard to pull through the rind as well. So I thought OK, it's still a good zester. And.....No-it's-not. Get a microplane, or maybe a different zester, but this one is a turd. Finally, the handle is not "comfortable," it's too hard and too big for my (fairly small but not outrageously so) hand. The whole tool is poorly designed and clumsy.

I am bartender who uses this tool constantly at work. The channel knife not only creates an elegant-looking garnish, but the motion of peeling the rind over the glass sprays the essential oils of the citrus into the glass, which adds a great deal of flavor to the cocktail. It works best on oranges and lemons---limes can be done but as the skin is thinner it tends to break off sooner. I have yet to find a channel knife designed for limes. Any good bartender should this tool. The zesting end can be used at home for cooking; adding zest to baked goods or vinagerettes and marinades. This particular brand is excellent because it fits well into the palm and is comfortable to hold. I sought it out specifically over other brands because of how it fits into the hand.

This is a wonderfully efficient zesting tool. If you find that you need a zester more than even once a year you should invest in this nifty little product. It boasts solid construction with an easy grip rubberized handle and 5 sharp holes for quick and easy zesting. Very easy to hold and twist when zesting. It even has a little channel knife if you want to do some fancy peeling. This beats the heck out of trying to zest with a cheap grater type device and is vastly superior to trying to zest with the edge of a knife. (As I did for years before I learned better) I use lemon and lime zest quite a bit more than the average person and I see no signs that this tool will dull, break, or wear out anytime soon. Highly recommended tool for any active zester. As easy to wash as a fork. Cool.
