Rock solid fit! A key feature for any defensive handgun grip but ironically many manufacturers ignore this. This grip was already firmly in place before I put the grip screw in with no gaps on the backstrap or trigger guard (642-2 recent production). Provides a hand filling engagement that makes sight acquisition and presentation a snap to get used to. It's wider at the butt than most j frame concealable grips and this works better. Will not make a difference for appendix carry. Unlike Hogue, Pachmayr came up with a super simple solution for installing this type of grip (Hogue's is overly complicated and leaves a very loose fit when completed): use the frame pin hole for the grip screw. Uber simple. One nitpick: the instructions dont explain that the installer has to remove the frame pin to mount the grip. However, it take 2 seconds to do so and becomes apparent that the grip isnt going to slip over the frame pin. Yet, its a significant oversight not to clearly include this in the instructions. Armed with this info, you can install this grip in a couple minutes with a punch (to remove the frame pin) and a small phillips (to screw the grip through the frame and back into a brass nut imbedded in the opposite side of the one piece grip.)Kudos Pachmayr for employing the KISS rule and making a great product.

Very smart design. Gives you all you need for a full comfortable grip in as small a package as possible. Full rear grip coverage of J frame to mitigate recoil. Good ambi palm swells. Non tacky surface. Minimal printing ambi carry. This is now my EDC firearm grip.

I came into possession of a Smith & Wesson .38 J-frame Airweight with the small Bantam grip. I could barely get two fingers on the grip, not comfortable and to me that means not safe. I had the original S&W and a Hogue grip. Neither felt right. Couldn't be more pleased with this Pachmayr. Now I can barely get three fingers on the grip, it's wider, and the rear of the frame is now covered and cushioned.Directions are minimal if that worries you. There was a pin I tapped flush with a small hammer and then used pliers to wiggle out. Slid on the new grip and secured with the Phillips screw. Didn't take two minutes.Looks good, feels good, inexpensive, couldn't be more pleased.

I got the grip to replace the original grips that came on my 637 because of my arthritis. I needed more of a cushion against the recoil when firing 158 grain or +P. The grip does radically soften the recoil. It is larger than the original grip , allowing me to get all three fingers on the grip which has helped my accuracy. The downside is that the larger grip is harder, though not impossible , to pocket carry. I expected and accept that, but I did not expect the grip surface to be so tacky. That tendency to grip and hold onto the pocket lining in some pants and shorts is actually a bigger problem for me than the larger size. That is why I gave the grips a 4 instead of a 5. That tackiness is less of a problem, but still a concern , in IWB carry. Delivery was timely, actually a day earlier than stated. Installation was simple and quick.

I've bought AT LEAST a half dozen grips for j frames over the years, and these are comfortably the best. Personally, I've spent too much of my life pondering small revolver grips, and I've found 3 things to be paramount.1. Weight: I'm all about having a light weight ccw, and a forgotten factor in weight is the grip. I have the old school pachmayr grips, and they are great except for the considerable weight. These Diamond pro's are just about as light as you can get.2. Size: In keeping with the CCW idea, if the grip is too big, its kind of defeats the purpose. This is a limitation of the grip, as they are bigger than the standard rubber grips. However, I've found them to still be small enough to carry in my Levi's pockets, so I'm ok with the larger size3. Comfort: This is where these grips shine. The volume and length and soft material allow for a significant reduction in felt recoil. The added "length of pull" allows for a better trigger grip. Together this results in increased accuracy, which is a great benefit. All in all I think these grips make turn the practical j frame into an outstanding CCW piece.

Bought these for my S&W 642 Airweight and am very happy.I've seen people comain that these are hard to install and feel like plastic.Neither of these are true. The hardest part of the installation was finding my small Allen wrenches to get the factory screw out and then removing the factory grip pin from the bottom of the frame without a punch. Neither of which are an issue of the Pachmayr grips. They seated very well on my j frame. As for feeling like plastic, no, they do not and they are not plastic. They are tacky rubber much like I new bicycle tire. They do LOOK A little plastick-y at first but after handling for just a few minutes, the sheen starts to fade and the tacky feeling gets better. As for performance, for my hand, they are much better. That extra inch or so really make a difference in control and even trigger break feel. It also gives a better hand setup for 2 handed grip, much more like my 9mm than a snubby.Final complaint I've seen is that the grips make it harder to conceal. Personally I find this to be snobbery or nit picking or both. The bottom of the grip is fat but no more than the cylinder itself so it doesn't add any noticible carry thickness in my IWB holster or Fobus paddle holster. It might be a more realistic issue for a pocket holster but personally I don't like those to begin with so I can't be one to say. The grip size also makes a much better quick grab from both of my holsters (exactly why I don't like in pocket holsters)All in all, I am pleased and would by more if I had more revolvers to put them on.
