If you plan on performing tap or die operations, then you need some fluid to cut down on the coefficient of friction and help move the shavings to the flutes of the tap or die. This fluid from Park Tool does the job but no better than 5W30 motor oil, and motor oil is a lot cheaper than this fluid. The larger the surface are of the tap or die to be used the lower the coefficient of friction one would wish for. As such, this fluid appears to be right in the middle between heat absorption and ability to move shavings to the flutes, and ease of cutting. So, it is well designed for cutting but then 5W30 motor oil is just about in the middle of the spectrum too. And this fluid costs about $13 for 8 ounces versus motor oil at about $1.50 for 8 ounces. You can decide for yourself but do not let anyone convince you that you need this fluid to tap a pedal, frame or derailleur hanger. A bottle of new 5W30 motor oil will do just as good a job for much less.

Handy at the drill press. This fluid works well, sheds the heat and by all accounts is soy based and environmentally friendly. The price was right for what small amount I needed.

This cutting fluid works well, but like all cutting fluids, it needs to be replenished while cutting. It does get everywhere, though.

The fluid itself is great but the dispenser spout does not direct flow of fluid. The fluid leaks all around the edges of the spout when dispensed. It make it a little harder to get the cutting fluid to exactly where you want it.I used this to help tap some 3/8-16 holes in cold rolled steel. Worked great despite the messy cap.
