Being an industrial mechanic, I've dealt with numerous types of tubing connectors for both liquid and gas systems. And they were all, far more user friendly than this type.I was splicing a 1/2" aluminum coolant line, and would've been better (and cheaper) off going with 1/2" hose and worm gear clamps to make the repair. And that solution may well be in the cards, yet. Depending on how these perform. The body and nut seem to universally fit 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm tubing. The seal ring and tension sleeve are what determine the final size. By changing those you could conceivably connect a variety of line size combinations. The inside of the body is step cut to receive the various sizes, and when installing, the tubing must be centered in the fitting and firmly seated within its stepped area, or else you'll most likely not have a seal. It takes three hands to be able to hold the parts firmly together while tightening everything up. The step cut and the tapered end on the tension sleeve effectively keep everything in line and centered, so that the evenly compressed seal ring can do its thing. Choose your repair area to be as accessible as possible to cut down on the frustration.Because the body can accommodate so many sizes, it only has a 17/64" hole through it. To avoid any potential flow distribution problems, I drilled out the center to be 1/8" smaller than the tubing size (3/8" in my case). That preserved the necessary step, while opening up the port to approximately the ID of the tubing. If I had access to a machine shop on short notice, I would have had them measure the OD of the step, and machine it all the way through, to allow nearly 1/4" area supporting the tubing and would've been a lot less aggravating to use, while eliminating the takeout altogether. The instructions say that the takeout is 1/8" inch. But that is apparently for the 5/16" (8mm) size. Because of the stepped body, the takeout for 3/8" (10mm) is about 1/4", and it is about 3/8" for 1/2" (12mm) tubing. These would be far easier to work with if they were for only one size and had a more generous stepped area.
