Exercise Science Professor

Let me start by saying that I've been an Exercise Science professor for almost 20 years. Dips are like squats for the upper body. There is no question that if you had to choose 1 exercise to build your entire upper body it would be dips (you could also probably include pullups). It's easy to add dips or assisted dips to your routine if you are someone who goes to the gym. But if you prefer to workout at home, or if Covid shuts the gym down, how can you continue to perform proper dips? Well, until this product came out you didn't have a good option. The only dip stations I've found (for at home use) are those old school power stations that have the pullup on one side and the dip bars on the other. The problem with all of these stations are that the bars are parallel. This position is an extremely restricted position. You may be able to fight through the awkward feeling but eventually your shoulders will become irritated. Parallel bar dips are very awkward and not functional. The only way to avoid the irritation that comes with dips is to use a "V" shaped dip station. This product is the only one on the market like it. Its awesome!!The V Dip was very easy to setup. It was all pins. I would recommend watching the video for clarification rather than simply relying on the written instructions. The video made it real easy. The V Dip is very versatile. You can easily flip it on its side and use it as a bench. Its also very thick. I feel comfortable that it will support my weight. I have my V Dip on a carpeted floor. It does shake a tiny bit as i get situated but I feel confident while performing the different exercises. This may be better on a completely flat floor. If you are an overly cautious person you could use to dumbbells to make sure it's anchored down. But definitely not necessary. The V Dip also came with a nice little goodie bag. The bag has the V Dip insignia, which is actually pretty cool. It reminds me of the Cobra Kai insignia. It came with 3 masks, which were of high quality. The bag also had 2 stretch cords. I underestimated these at first. There are 4 specially placed hooks on the V Dip for different stretch cord exercises. The included cords are of great quality but may be too light for advanced enthusiasts. I connected 2 25lb cords and BOOM, perfect. The V Dip is a one of a kind piece of equipment! There is no other at home dip station with the "V" formation. Trust me. If you want to improve your upper body while minimizing risk of injury, you need the V Dip! You won't be disappointed!!

I love this thing. If you're in the stage of your life where you're renting, this is the only option unless you're lucky enough to have a tall enough outdoor railing, and it's arguably better than that. The only other ways to really do v-dips, also known as "gironda dips", is to have that 90 degree bar, and those exist in only a few gyms, as attachments for power racks in another price range, or require serious DIY skills. And, if you lack that much space, this is still arguably better as it also functions as a normal flat bench and has anchor points for resistance bands, which it comes with 1 of, a pair of handles and a pair of leg straps (+ storage bag and carabiners). All the metal components appear to be steel, nicely-welded and is held together by interlocking 3 parts - the top V-section is one continuous piece that locks onto the top, of the central part and the lower foot is one continuous piece that locks onto the bottom. There are pieces that further secure them together with quick release pins as well as the bench surface (which came to me shipped in a second package) that adds weight to the back and further stabilizes it, also held in place with pins. The tubing is fairly large in diameter and it feels like a good balance of stability while maintaining storability. This thing is engineered and designed super well, way better than most other products I've bought recently. It's not too good for the price, but it's not a piece of junk. Every dollar that goes into it feels worthwhile, and I've seen the inventor of it talk on video - this piece of equipment is his labor of love and it's frankly inspiring. There are only 3 complaints I have - 1 is that the rings for the pins and support pieces rattle. I quieted it with some masking tape, but it's pretty annoying in the stages where you're still getting used to doing the dips. The 2nd is that the finish in some places - paint on one of the parts had some residue rubbing off til I gave it a thorough scrub, and the rubber grips on the v-dip bars had a pretty harsh chemical odor that gets on your hands, but it's gotten better over time. The other complaint is that it's made in china - I understand why it had to be done - I saw the interview he gave and the engineering costs on this were huge which meant cutting in other spots - but it's still regrettable. The quality does look like he went for the upper end of chinese manufacture, but I still hope he can move to having it moved to at least Taiwan or Mexico in the future, if not USA.All that said, if you have the space and money or skill to put up a dedicated custom-welded gironda bar, go for it. If you need something you can pack into a closet or take with you when you move, or can't affix anything to your landlord's walls, this is the thing, the only thing, that lets you do this exercise. And it allows much more if you add more bands and/or dumbbells. It's also pretty good as an option if you're just starting out, since it isn't a nightmare to set up and if you want to sell it later it can be removed by 1 person.Well done. 5 stars.

I wanted a piece of home gym equipment that I could do dips on and other exercises, but also wouldn't take up much room and could be moved around easily. The VDip is super solid and well made and easily holds my 210 lb body. Was a little concerned that the V-shape of the dip area might have been too wide, but it works really well for my frame. It also is easy to store in the corner of my home office now moonlighting as a home gym. The bench and clips for attaching workout bands are nice additional features to add in more exercises. Some drawbacks though - because it's solid, it comes with a lot of weight so it isn't that easy to move around. Also the size is a lot bigger than most pieces of equipment I'm use to. It's a bit cumbersome to get up on the dip bar as it's tall; 4'5" from floor to top of dip handle. At 5'11" I struggle a little and use a box to get up and down on it. I have a wide 42" chest, but feel most comfortable as close as I can get inside the V for my dips. The bench is nice, well made and solid too, but the hight of the bench itself is very tall at over 2'1" from the floor and cumbersome as well to do bench dumbbell rows or to keep your feet sturdy on the ground while doing bench presses or flyes. It'd probably be a perfect piece of equipment for people over 6'5" tall.Overall, I'd recommend the VDip if you are looking for a solid piece of home gym equipment and love doing dips as part of your workouts and would like a workout bench to do other things. If you are under 6' tall though you'll just need to really assess how you'd use the VDip in your workouts. As a side note, Abdon (the owner) is great to work with and very responsive.
