Our first unit lasted around nine years and worked well for all the elderly in our church. We read purchase this again and I still love it.

Have only used twice. Seems to work well in the area.Don't like the telescoping antenna. Would prefer a co-ax connector to remotely place the antenna.A nice feature is you can plug a stereo head set in the receiver and it will drive both ear pieces without using a mono-to-stereo adaptor.

Headphone jacks on beltpacks are out of spec. Headphones that comes with the kit are actually mono headphones and have a lot more surface area to make contact inside the jack since they are missing the 3rd pole for stereo. I suspect the jack in the belt pack is supposed to make contact with both poles on a standard stereo headset, but it does not, at least for the Panasonic headphones I bought to use with this kit. When the plug on the headphones is fully inserted, you only get the left headphone. If you pull plug out about half a millimeter all of a sudden you get both ears.I'm ordering some separate mono to stereo adapters to see if they are more in spec and will drive both sides of the headphones.

I have used other Peavey audio equipment and found it to be a good value. This was a disappointment. The hook up was straight forward. A line-level output from our sanctuary's mixer board to the line level input of the transmitter. Turned the input level to the mid position as a starting place. Next I put AA batteries in a receiver, plugged in the ear buds and turned the receiver on setting the volume to the mid position. The receiver was in the same room just 3 feet from the transmitter and the sound was anything but good. There was both static and hum. I tried flipping the transformer in the outlet. I tried using an isolation transformer in the audio line. The hum persisted and the noise continued to crackle. I thought, perhaps this was a bad receiver so I put batteries in a second receiver and tried it. It was the same as the first. So, I focused on the transmitter. I tried an attenuator to feed the signal to the microphone input. That didn't help. In frustration, I switched the power on the transmitter off. Ouch! The receivers have no squelch so my ears were blasted with a burst of noise. A hearing assistance device should never do that since the volume is likely to be set high to overcome a hearing loss and the burst of noise can further damage hearing. I yanked the ear buds out and began repacking the receiver and transmitter. With respect the the static and hum I don't know if this is a bad sample or not. But as someone who has spent 6 years working for a Speech and Hearing research lab I have to reject this product do to the possibility of it causing hearing damage due to an unacceptable design for use in assisting listening.
