This and the appatently-similar 1975 both have a "wide" beam, acheived not by good design but with a reflector/led arrangement which produces an empty ring of a beam. Tjey tried to blur it out enough with the faceted reflector texture, but it doesn't quite work.This one claims a slightly higher brightness and a longer running time than the 1975, but be aware that this is because it has no power regulation. After the first few minutes, it's a much dimmer light. The 1975 has a "shorter" run time, but maintains its quoted brightness for most of it instead of dimming immediately.

Had several pelican lights over the years. Some excellent, but last two are poor. Both had contact or switch problems, tried different batteries-not the problem. This one apparently has design problem. Light will dim or not come on fully or at all. A little tap usually gets it to full brightness. Unacceptable for a light of this price and quality reputation. To send it back: $15 service charge! Nah, when I get tired of this silliness, it'll land in the trash. Poor service call center handling also.
