I went onto the Pertronix site to purchase an electronic distributor replacement. Using their selection page for a 39 Plymouth 6-cylinder engine I purchased the item. When it arrived the instructions stated it was for a 12-volt negative ground vehicle. My 39 is original and as such is 6-volt positive ground. There is a different part number specifically for 6-volt positive ground vehicles. This happens to be $40 more than the one I am returning so I am in the justification mode as to purchasing this model. Additionally, these units require suppressor spark plug wires. An additional expense I was not aware of.

Ended up sending it back. Despite my mechanic's discussions with their technical dept., he could not get the thing to work. (the product should have come with a "firing ring" They said I didn't need one. Note: My mechanic had installed dozens of these. Very dissappointed that I had to go back to conventional points and condenser system.

I purchased this because I was tired with dealing with the points on my 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe. The Pertronix 2563LS solid state ignition and the Pertronix 40501 flame thrower was a great combination. It was simple to install (about 30 min for both from start to finish), and the timing does not jump around at all.On a sidenote, my car has a vacuum advance. So I had to identify (from the online catalog) which one was for my DISTRIBUTOR.
