These are very low priced for 12 mattes and, as such, are lower quality. They’re not white but more of a muted recycled paper color. They’re pretty thick but they don’t have any sort of beveled cut so it’s a cut out of the middle. If your hanging something special, spend a little more and get something nicer. Otherwise, these will work.

Horrid product…cheap paper (as in as thin as cheaper than poster board)…the front surface is white (with an ugly “texture”)…the back and edges are brown (as in the color of a paper bag. This brown edge shows on the inside edge when framed. And a big gob of brown glue is placed around the “set” of mats, apparently to keep them from sliding apart during shipping. One of the glue-gobs is on the inside edge of the mats (where it is also visible in front of your art or photo when framed). Super flimsy trash paper. Worst of all, the opening dimension is NOT for artwork that is 9 x 12, actual opening is only 7 3/4 inches x 10 7/8 inches. Quite a disparity if you have 9x12 artwork that you are wanting to frame. So dismally disappointed that Amazon ships this, shakes my confidence in the description of their other products. Honestly, you will get a better mat if you buy a piece of poster board and cut it with a razor-knife and a straight edge to guide the knife. Don’t buy this for sure. I knew this want premium beveled stock at this price, but I at least thought it would be useable.

This is ok for kids projects but it's not a finished product for display. Looks like packing cardboard and very flimsy. I use it to frame kids artwork for the refrigerator or to test artwork framing options. I would never use it to even frame a photograph. But then it's not packaged for fine art.

The mats are very nice. I do watercolor and always mat my paintings. I find there are very nice and well priced.

The outside dimensions of the mat I received is 11.5" by 17" and the inside dimensions are 8" by 11".I bought this to go in a 12"x16" frame, like it says in the description... but the mats are half an inch too skinny, and one inch too long. Returning the item because there is no way this will fit in a 12"x16" frame - I would have to trim it, but the width being too skinny you would see the edges of the mat.
