It's just what I wanted and at a great price! I almost gave it 4 stars because I had to repair one of the discs because it was skipping very badly. It was disc 3, lessons 5 & 6, probably where people struggled to move forward and it got a bit abused. All of the other discs are working just fine. AND it arrived nearly a week earlier than I was informed. I would buy from this seller again.

I use this in addition to other material. The other material is something that I use to get the rules etc. and I need to focus harder for that. The Pimsleur CDs are a great way to brush up what I learn in the harder material, and can be done while driving. It can also be used as the only way you learn French if you want to learn at a relaxed pace. All in all a very useful tool to immerse yourself. I am finishing Level 2 as well currently and have also bought the Level 3 CD.

This is a very good learning tool. I wanted something I could listen to in the car, and this seemed to be the best option. I would actually recommend listening to each lesson at home because the pauses where you have to reply aren't always long enough, not making you come up with the answer but rather repeating the answer when the speaker beats you to the punch.Likes:Concentrates on pronunciation. It works by you learning the last syllable and progressively learn each in front. Sounds confusing, but this really works and makes sense as you're using it.Repetition, repetition, repetition.Reviews material at the beginning of each lesson.Lessons are 22-30 minutesDislikes:Needs an additional class at the beginning to help you understand that you are only learning a couple forms of the verb and that you are learning the formal form of "you" as well as some introductory understanding of the Italian language.Learning to spell the words shortly after being introduced to them would help reinforce learning.Learning other conjugation forms would also reinforce learning. No companion flash cards. Why not have flash cards labeled with each lesson number for you to put in your practice deck? While this IS a great course, I would supplement it with Duolingo, Sparknote flash cards, and Living Language Complete language course as I have. Also a tutor would be great.

I've used Pimsleur's stuff for all my language skills. While I lived and worked in Europe I tried all the other players and compared to this system they all suck. Most are glorified dictionaries, a lot focus on grammar (I'm sorry but "My Uncle Jorge has two red tractors" isn't going to come in handy) and I don't understand why they don't get that we want to learn a language to communicate with the natives.Pimsleur gets that which is why, if you're serious about learning another language, you should get this.

The native speakers speak too quickly and if you dont recognise the words in the first place and have no written script to look them up is very frustrating.

I tried other language learning materials, and I find Pimsleur to be the most effective and simple as well as fun. Personally, I look forward to the 25-30 minute session, and I feel I am learning without tons of struggling--it's very "pain-free!"It's very true that they will repeat a word just when you need to hear it again which helps with long term memory. For some reason, learning seems very natural using this system.I could not download any of the CD's onto my Mac for my iPod, so if you want the sessions for iTunes, you may want to purchase via iTunes (I didn't know that), so now I have 2 sets--CD's and also from iTunes!Buon fortuna!

Obviously oriented toward men on the prowl, this is nevertheless a fun/ny way to learn a language. It is focused on learning conversation, such as beginning with "hello." Many of the scenarios are focused on a man picking-up a woman, sometimes aggressively/annoyingly so, but stops short of asking her to go to bed. In the scenarios, at least the woman frequently holds her own. I wouldn't consider this as an only source in learning a language, but it does help you to communicate quickly.

I have done Pimsleur French (I -III), Spanish(I-III), and am now working on Italian II. I am looking forward to doing German, and more in the future. Yes, I'm a Pimsleur addict. And I'm someone who took two years of French in college and never learned how to say anything. I'm also someone who got my lowest grade in college in foreign language! And that's after lots of work then. But, Pimsleur really, really, does teach you how to converse, if you are willing and able to pay the money, and put in the time. You won't know lots of vocabulary (but that's easy to learn later) but you will know how to construct all the basic sentences you need to. You'll be able to converse with people at the train station when your train is delayed, at the store when you buy something, etc. This is converse not just ask directions! and people will tell you your accent is pretty good.If you are very serious about being fluent, or knowing how to read, you will need other info later - but if you really, really want to be able to manage like a cosmopolitan tourist or business person, not like the typical English only American, these are the best courses.I recommend allowing a minimum of a month for each I, II, and III. More is better. I really 'get' it if I work through and then put them away for a few months, and then go back. Doing the first one only will not really prepare you to converse, but you will be able to order at restaurants and stores, and be polite. The second will allow simple conversation, and the third more complex conversation - especially if you work on your own on your own vocabulary for your sitaution.
