This scanner can handle 35mm slides or negatives, in color or B&W. We wanted to digitize old family slides from my wife's parents, on behalf of her family members, so we bought this bundle. The scanner works well and quickly, with adjustable resolution so you can match the resolution for the need. In our case, a somewhat lower resolution was saved in JPG format (using the included SilverFast 8.8 SE software), with some color adjustments (for film aging and lighting situations) and sharpness tweaking (for the less-than-professional photos from decades ago, before motion compensation was built into digital cameras); the resulting images were more than clear enough for the purpose, and much higher resolutions of the scanning are possible. I scanned over 3000 slides in less than a month, and I was quite pleased with the results for this purpose. Among dedicated film-to-digital scanners, this one is very cost effective, and well worth the investment. For more sophisticated users, the SilverFast program can be upgraded to a higher-capability version, or there are options for bundling. SilverFast seems to be recognized as one of the better digitizing and control programs for scanners, and has a wide range of capabilities that can be learned... but just be aware that you will have to work through some old-style interfaces with minimal explanations to get to all of the capabilities of the software, which is written and supported through a European company. SilverFast version 9 and above requires a 64-bit Windows 11 computer for the Windows version, otherwise you will only be able to use version 8.8 and below; there are additional versions specified that depend on the particular scanner and the price paid. This Plustek scanner came with version 8.8 and the SE "feature level," which is not the highest available, but it could be upgraded for free to 9.0 if I had a 64-bit machine.
