This is a nice pen turning mandrel for us ShopSmith users.The mandrel fits perfectly on the ShopSmith drive and includes the needed set screw to lock it in place.It comes witha drill bit, which is probably sized for slimline pens since all of the included bushings state they are for slimline pens. So if you are turning other style pens, you'll need to verify the drill bit size for your application.The length of the mandrel is not adjustable, since the ShopSmith does not have a hollow drive center like a standard lathe will. This was not a big deal for me, just know that it's something ShopSmith users have to deal with. If you know, then you know.All in all I'm very happy with this mandrel and would highly recommend for any ShopSmith user looking for a good pen turning mandrel.

Small pens are hart to keep locked into the lath. This really helps and gives me a piece of mind knowing that it wont fly into low earth orbit while I’m working it.

The mandrel fit my Shopsmith perfectly and has the standard 5/32" set screw to tighten on the armor. the mandrel is straight along it's length with no significant runout. It's stiff and not prone to movement while on the headstock.

Overall this is a pretty good little mandrel. Attaching it to the lathe was easy and it stays pretty well balanced when you are turning with it. I do wish the bushings were made out of brass but for the price it is hard to ask for much more.

This is a fantastic tool for anyone using Shopsmith machines to turn pens. It’s extremely well-made and fits perfectly with my setup, providing a stable and precise hold while I work on my pen projects.
