This is as expected and seems like good quality. Saw one like this used in swim lessons and loved it. Tried it with a 2.25" pool noodle and it holds the noodle, but it's a loose fit. I fear in the water and with motion, it may become loose. I'd recommend finding a 2.5" one. This holder is a very dense foam so you would need the noodle to squeeze in as this has no give to it.Still recommend but advise larger than 2.25 (on packaging it says 2.25-3" noodle)
