These are not thin plates. They have some weight to them. I think it makes them more resilient to chips. They are smaller than I was hoping, but I should have taken out a measuring tape and compared with other dishes. 12 inches sounded good, but it is a bit small for a dinner plate. However, it is great for things like a sandwich with a side, especially because it is oval. I will be honest, I would really like it if they would make a larger version - maybe 16 inches or so. Nevertheless, I am thinking about buying more in white (I have them in black and they look great).

I bought these for a dinner where a chef was cooking in my home. I wanted black for one of the dishes he was preparing and they were perfect. They are very well made and since the event I've used them several times. Love them!!

These are very pretty but not really serving dishes. They are more like an oval dinner plate. I know I should have paid more attention to the dimensions, but I didn’t imagine these plates would be so little! Maybe to serve asparagus, or cheese and crackers. If you want to serve any main course for more than 2 people, don’t get this. I don’t think it is large enough for a dinner plate.
