The 8" Parallelogram Jointer offers performance and value in a machine loaded with features. The cutterhead is a helical design with 54 four sided knife inserts – these produce a superior finish and much quieter operation than conventional cutterheads, and the inserts do not require adjustment once installed. The Jointer has an extra long 82” bed for better work support and is equipped with an innovative single handwheel design that tilts the fence in and out with positive stops at +/-45 and 90 degrees. Powerful Two-Horsepower Motor
The PJ-882HH has a two-horsepower motor housed in the heavy steel stand, providing plenty of power and stability for the most demanding jobs. A fully welded, all-steel base cabinet provides a solid platform for the PJ-882HH, and at 20-1/2 x 20-1/2 x 15 inches (W x H x D), it puts the bed at a comfortable 31-5/16 inches above the floor.
The base cabinet houses the motor and its adjustable mount for altering belt tension when necessary, and a rear door for easy access to the motor and its mount. An on/off switch is conveniently mounted to a mast, while an effective dust evacuation chute has its outlet positioned low on the base, keeping the hose flat on the floor.
Helical Cutterhead
The jointer has a helical cutterhead that uses individual solid carbide cutters--each with four indexed cutting edges that can be rotated should the first edge become dull.
This design is effective because the cutterhead's carbide inserts are arranged in spiral-shaped rows, with a four-inch radius ground into them. They're also mounted so they approach the wood at a 14-degree angle, which creates a true shear cut that eliminates much of the impact that results in fiber disturbance. Also, the durability of the carbide combined with the low-impact, shear cutting action mean the inserts have an extended long life, far exceeding that of straight blades.
Optimum Accuracy
Because accuracy depends on the perfect alignment of the infeed and outfeed tables, each corner has an adjustable cam for correcting any coplanar misalignments that may occur over time. Also, the mechanism that moves the tables up and down keeps them close to the cutterhead, which results in cleaner cuts and a superior finish on the wood.
Precision Fence
For reliable performance, the PJ-882HH's fence has an insert that prevents scratching of the table when it's moved, and the operating mechanism allows precise bevel setting and ultra-stability when locked. A handwheel with patented worm gear system ensures precise fence tilting.

First, shipping was top notch. 5 stars there!Now on to the Jointer. I was trying to decide between the 8" Helical head Grizzly or this Powermatic jointer for double the price. I chose the latter, with expectations that I'd be getting a machine that would require less setup from the factory and premium customer service.I get the Jointer and start going through setup. First step. The outfeed table was .025" too low even all the way maxed out on the adjustment knob and set screws back all the way out. I call customer service thinking maybe I am missing something. Now I understand they have tons of products but the customer service rep took 2 hours to reach. I gave them my model on this jointer and he clearly had no idea what machine I was talking about. This machine has been production for decades. It's the Cadillac of jointers. How can you not know that as a customer service rep working for Powermatic?I digress.We speak on the phone and he was very friendly. He said I did everything correctly and that he would send out a rep and that someone would be calling me. Very good news indeed! Except no one called me. Then when I call back, it was as it I never called. No one knew anything about my case.So instead, I spent 2 days adjusting the cams on the outfeed and that finally corrected the issue. So, from first hand experience, you're not getting top quality setup from factory, you're not getting quality customer service, you are getting the exact same thing you would at half the price from any other one of these now Chinese based companies. In fact, Grizzly has been nothing but excellent when it comes to customer service so I'd even argue your getting a worse experience with Powermatic.As for the jointer itself, its a beautiful tool that performs beautifully once you burn two shop days setting it up. Unfortunately, they're way past their prime days as a company. I can't say I believe the premium price is worth it anymore over other offerings in the market.

This is a very good machine. The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 is because of the difficulty in alignment of the decks.I am unable to remove one of the wheels from the front to access the adjustment bolt. It came aligned close, but getting it to perfect has been a challenge. Finally got to within in .025 on one and .030 on another point. Hindered because of the inability to remove the wheel. Also, bolts on the front are behind the guard support of the deck and I do not have a offset metric wrench and it is impossible to loosen without one.Another thing is how quiet it operates and gives a near perfect finish on the wood. Deck is high quality cast iron that is milled to a very good finish.This machine is what you expect to get when you spend $3K on a Jointer.

I purchased my new PJ-882HH in August 2013. It came shipped in a bullet proof container. Although everything looked great the tables were not factory aligned. I followed the manual and watched all the Utube videos and could not get them adjusted properly. I contacted the service department and they immediately contact my local service provider but unfortunately they had never seen a parallelogram jointer before and in-fact the service technician said I was more knowledgeable on this tool then he was, ouch. Powermatic connected me with their head technician and after an hour and a half of phone guidance he finally said it was time to send me a new one and to send this one back. I was amazed how quickly Powermatic sent the replacement one out. The technician told me he double checked the table adjustments on my new machine and they were perfect. I love this machine. The fit and finish are excellent and it is very smooth. At 600 plus pounds you will need to order the mobile base specifically made for the PJ-882. I have run a couple of hundred feet of wood through this jointer (I am a serious hobbyist) and the helical cutter head is well worth the additional cost. It is quiet, smooth and leaves a very smooth finish. What impresses me as much as the quality and performance of this machine is the level of service Powermatic stands behind. I currently have a Powermatic 10" cabinet saw, the new PM1500 bandsaw and jointer. I have been a hobby woodworker for over thirty years and feel like these tools will last me the rest of my life and be passed down to my son and his son.
