I love this practice pad! I use to compete on a state level in a drumline and our sponsor gave us practice pads with the snare drum sound. I've been getting back into playing recently and was struggling to find a practice pad with the snare effect. If you're in a similar situation, look no further. This practice pad is amazing! Not only does it have the snare effect, but the stick rebound is amazing too!

Great design idea but poor execution. The practice surface is not quiet compared to other gum rubber or silicone pads. Very little rebound; firmer than the Vibram sole of a shoe with similar rebound. This pad falls short compared to the original, early generation Xymox snare sound practice pad (Ahead uses the Xymox patented snare sound system) that were made with textured gun rubber.

Great response. Very solid gum rubber pad.The snare sound is most pronounced in the center of the pad (where you’re supposed to play). The snare cartridge is licensed from xymox. It’s not designed to be removable. The sound is great for a practice pad. Allows some great practice on rolls especially.Anyone in a marching band or pipes and drum band especially will appreciate a pad like this. The one star review above has some incredibly weak points to it, and all of his comments are unfounded in my experience.

Watery snare sound at best, snare only works in one area, little to no rebound, and I couldn't take off the snare plate even if I wanted to because the bolts on it were messed up. You can buy a pad like a tap off MINI for the same price, now that is a pad

First of all I should mention that I'm a beginner drummer. I just picked up one of these from a local music store because I wanted to start practicing while waiting for my DTX400K from Amazon. They all looked pretty similar and were somewhat equally priced, but on a whim I went with this one.I like the feel of it so far and it has good rebound. The 'Snare Sound' is dependent on where you place it. On a stand you get a lot, but on say, a padded chair seat, almost no snare sound at all (just a normal pad sound). Apparently the whole pad needs to vibrate to shake the BBs for the most sound.Out of curiosity I tried to remove the nuts on the backside plate had holds the BBs, but you can neither loosen nor tighten them. I imagine the bolt heads are spinning freely under the pad and there's no way to get to them without pulling off the well attached rubber (or whatever it is) layer, which would screw up the whole pad. I have to wonder why they don't want customers messing with the BBs. It's not like they are the only pads that have this. (If I really wanted to remove the BBs I could just drill a hole in the plate and shake them out.)All in all I like it, but I'm old enough to remember when a practice pad was nothing fancy or expensive, but simply a block of wood with a strip of rubber glued on. That was all that was available back in the 60s and it seemed to work just fine for the up and coming generation of drummers back then.
