It's a detail, but the hatchet is not as illustrated. There's not the Gold Prandi Logo on the head that we see on Amazon. The handle is rough. I will need to sand it down and treat it again.I didn't try it yet.

Well built no nonsense working hatchet.Has some heft to it, unlike many sold in big box hardware stores. Ax head was sharp and ready to split wood. Going to buy another for my son for Xmas.

very nice for the price and has no problem cutting decently thick trees, came sharp, the sheath is nice and the handle is quite nice as well

Prandi's German style thin profile, with a little added grinding, makes into a very nice carving hatchet. Scrape and sand the finish off the handle. I have the 600gr and wanted a little more weight so I got the 800gr.My only problem is not with the hatchet. It is with Amazon. I paid for a sheath and did not, let me repeat did not receive a sheath with the order. The only option is go to Amazon for return/refund. This is not good business. There for I am required to leave a negative review of Amazon. A rubber blade cover does not resemble the sheath in the picture. I was able to find the factory sheath for this hatchet at Knife Country, USA, for those who have had the same experience with Amazon.Again, I an very pleased with the hatchet. It fits my needs very well. Amazon should have the slogan "If you don't get what you ordered. You can send it back and wait for the refund to process or live with our screw up. I for one do not care to waste my time on their screw ups. Which evidently happen quite often.

Not as described and not as shown in photos. Prandi logo is stamped into the bit of the blade instead of etched on the cheek. Handle was loose from head upon arrival. Will be sending the hatchet back.

This hatchet is very nice.. it has a nice heft and bites deep into live wood. I can get a full 2 hand grip on it. Love the Rhineland shape. I however, will probably stick with my Fiskar patch it on my day pack as it weighs just a little over a pound, this prandi would be better suited for a more stationary camp as it weighs alot more than the fiskars.. but in comparison, it has one and a half times the blade length. If you don't mind carrying a little extra weight on your back this thing is great. I find it well made and cuts well. I also like the fact that it comes with and American Hickory handle. The blade sheath is also very well made. You cannot go wrong for the money. On mine, the emblem is stamped into the blade.. this axe also comes in 600 gram head if you want a lighter version.

Good quality and great value, especially if you plan to customise it. I sanded back the handle, oiled it, added a leather cuff to the handle honed the head. Now it’s perfect.

I love the Prandi axe, and they arrived in good time. But the axes were not bubble wrapped, just put in plastic sleeves and they were damaged in shipping.

The head was a little loose but a few whacks on the base of the handle with a deadblow hammer sorted that out. I love the shape weight and look of it. It came nice and sharp and chops well. The leather sheath is also very nice and I recommend it.

Altogether a good value in my opinion. As noted by some others, the handle fitment is a bit lacking, slippery, and a little large in diameter even for myself with quite large hands.I sanded a ittle bit to reduce diameter, stripped the finish off the handle, and carved some grooves, sanded with medium grit, and am finishing with several coats of pure Tung oil. I know the carving looks a bit primitive, but it feels great in the hand.I reconfigured the edge, and is knife-sharp now as well.If you have the know-how to do the modifications, this is a good choice as a basis for a working hatchet.

Pretty good quality/cost ratio. The cutting edge to handle straightness was off by a degree or two, but not too concerning. The bevel grind is also slightly off, but hey, I paid $40 for a forged head! Handle grain is excellent, cutting edge was sharp enough to cut well out of the box. A little work and I will have an excellent hatchet!

For the price alone you should give this a try. I have more muscle than most woman due to my job but I believe this to be a fantastic weight. It’s heavy enough to carry a bit of a swing but light enough not to tire you out too much. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the handle was to grip both lower down for swinging and choking the head for precision work. The Prandi decal on the axe head began to rub off during the first use. Although it is a beautiful mark, I wasn’t terribly attached to it so it didn’t bother me.The blade was decently sharp on arrival (useable!) but will definitely require some attention if you choose to use this for carving. I see it as a safety measure for shipping so I didn’t take off for it. Plus, if you are going to be using it you should get comfortable sharpening your own tools, anyhow, right? For the price, this is a fantastic hatchet. I have no argument with it. The head is secure and tight. I bought the sheath and grip separate just for aesthetic reasons. I do not believe they are strictly necessary, except the sheath and if it is of the same quality as the hatchet then you could purchase the one that is offered with the Prandi. I love this thing!

I took this hatchet out this weekend on a camping trip, and a tree unexpectedly fell across the access dirt track the first evening. Being our only way in or out, and failing to move the tree with the Jeep, we decided to cut it up. Since this little guy was the only tool available to us we got to work limbing and cutting up the 18" trunk across the trail. It really saved our bacon, and despite its small size it made quick work of the tree.Pros: The hatchet arrived well packaged and as advertised. The grain is perfectly aligned and the head is attached straight and securely. The weight of this hatchet is perfect: light enough for fine work but has enough heft for real work in a pinch.Cons: It came workably sharp, but I did decide to sharpen it before taking it out. The handle is a little rough and the varnish has a tacky texture. I put it to work this weekend and it was fine, but I'll be sanding and oiling it when I get the chance.
